From my stilted POV, a furry yellow lab puppy has texture, a silhouetted cyclone fence is a pattern.
After checking the old texture challenges , I also think an ostrich plume is about texture, while a back-lighted wing-feather or leaf is more about pattern.

Have I seen the light or am I fertilizing the flower beds?

Well I think you're absolutely correct, but what *I* think is pretty much irrelevant, and the voters often don't seem to make that distinction...

I agree with you whole-heartedly! I've given up on a bunch of ideas that I think are pattern instead of texture. "Texture refers to the properties held and sensations caused by the external surface of objects received through the sense of touch" So, while a nice piece of quarter-sawn oak furniture has beautiful lines, the texture is smooth.
