Oh... Dude! You did it all wrong! You pronounce the camera dead, buy the new one, and only then remember that someone said to check the clock battery. That way you have a working back-up, or a working camera to sell to offset the new purchase. ;-) |
Ya you're right. My wife actually told me to go out and get a new one. I think its me thats a little stingy. My camera only has about 6K on it its still brand new! But the noise issue in 200iso or higher is killing me!! I'm tempted to pull the trigger! and turn this one into my backup or convert to IR(that would be cool!)
Thx to all. |
I have my 350D converted to IR, love it! The 40D does very well on noise if you care to upgrade and it is running pretty cheap nowadays! |

I adore my 40D! Go get yourself one!
(showing my ignorance here, what's convert to IR?) |

Removing the hot mirror in front of the sensor that blocks most IR light. Removing this allows you to use the camera for Infrared Photography with long shutter speeds.

NOw that's a tough question. The new Rebel looks tempting at the price point. The 40 is out. The 50d or the new rebel. I am debating between the HD video inthe Rebel and the microadjustment for your lenses on the 50 + the fps on the 50 is a nice feature. Oh the dilemma!!
Any input? (I know there are more threads on this)

50D mate, better build quality and a certain degree of weather proofing I believe.. I will say the micro-adjustment can be a tedious experience. |

I went from xti to 50 d
the 50d is amazingly sharp, hate the on off button, it is kinda like Windows Vista though. Photomatrix doesn't like it , PS you have to add new DNG thingys etc. lots of add ons to add I have found.
But bar that, it is bigger than the xti, more twiddly bits and all of the whatsits do every nicely.

You guys are way too technical for me! I had trouble with the little battery I had to replace. Maybe I should stick to a point and shoot. |

Just really bit the bullet and pick up a used 1DsMKII for around $2k. Full frame, 16.7MP weathersealing, pro 45point AF, and amazing image quality.

The 50D works just fine with Adobe CS3, without needing the DNG converter. You have to manually download and update Adobe Camera Raw and then it's fine. It's only some cameras newer than the 50D, like the G10, that are no longer supported.
Not sure what your issues with Photomatix are, either, as I have no problems there either. Have you updated to the newest release? Updates are free.
Can't say I know what you mean about the on/off button. If you're talking about the main camera power switch, it's pretty much the same on all the xxD series. If you mean the auto-focus on/off button up by the exposure lock button, that one is a bit silly, but I simply turned it off on my camera.
All in all I like the 50D very much. The focus microadjustment that was mentioned earlier can be a bit of a hassle, but once you get the hang of it, it's not hard. I can do a lens in about 15 minutes, setup included. And I definitely see results from the adjustment.
The 50D build quality is superior to the Rebel series, and it's bigger, which is good for people like me with large hands. On the other hand, the Rebel series is still a great set of cameras; I have a 400D as a backup and really like it.

You guys are not going to believe this but.. I was shooting today, 3 models,MUA,Studio, outside it was a frenzy!! 3/4 of the way into the day I get ERR 99 message!! I change the batteries and all is well for about another 50 shots then again with the ERR 99 message!!. Is this F$#&&ing thing trying to tell me to buy a new camera!!(luckily I had someones 5D as a back up) I read that cleaning the contacts might help. I will try that but in the meantime does anyone have any other suggestions? I will check back later.
Thx

This can ONLY be solved with a new camera. Fiddling with fixing your current camera should only proceed AFTER the new camera is In Your Hands.
Here endeth the lesson.... :-) |

I got that error during an airshow and it turned out that the shutter mechanism needed to be replaced..thank god my 40D was still under warranty at the time... |

My first suggestion is get a new camera, this is your chance man!!! Seriously though, I had that problem before with my 20D and it lasted a day or so and then never again. The only thing I did was take the battery out and pop it back in, problem gone until it happened again, repeated this a few times and then it disappeared. I never figured out what the issue was but haven't had it since. Maybe bad connection between the lens and camera, poorly charged battery(?), the hand of some higher being forcing you into a newer model, who knows? If you're going to be shooting some paying jobs you should probably get a backup anyways. Good luck man! |

Personally, after looking at all his top 10s, ribbons, etc. I still think he should stick with the old, lousy, broken down camera. :D |

Surely that must be up to 1/2 a mil by now with interest. Double or nothing?
I gotta say that the 5D I used on Sunday yielded some sweeeet results! I will post some soon.Actually I will save those for the Free Study. I will post some with my Rebel and the awesome "wildlife" lens the 70-200mm. If that lens doesn't see one animal I won't care one bit, cuz it is crystal for portraits!! I also had my hands on the 85mm 1.4? Oh man I need to rob a bank!
Keep you updated on the purchase.

If you want any more ribbons you should stop putting your old wrinkly self in front of the camera.
Congrats on the new camera. |
