Mt. Redoubt has been spouting on and off for a week. I was so happy that each time the ash cloud went the 'other' way. Well not tonight. grrrrr There is a fine pumice grained ash all over the place. Just a light dusting but enough to be a pain in the arse.
I have the 50D sealed in my water tight LowPro. I'll use the point and shoot for snaps of whatever. I do want to take a trip out to where I can capture a shot of the volcano from a far distance, and for that will use the 50D. I'll have to rig up something with a plastic zip-loc baggy and somehow get the glass only exposed just long enough to take the shot.

Hope you are safe and it blows over soon :)

The ash fall advisory is in effect for a couple more hours yet. I had gently brushed off and saved some ash from the windshield around 10pm...it already looks as if I never touched it. The white snow is now grey. The air has just a hint of sulfur smell to it.

Keep healthy. I would be wearing dust masks outside, but I'm pretty anal. Volcanic Ash - Effects & Mitigation Strategies

I was just thinking about you a little while ago when the news mentioned the volcano. Hope you and yours are doing okay and the dust mask for yourself is a good idea. I'm not sure how the animals will take to one though. It could be an interesting picture to take of the pugs. *grin*

You do want to get the ash off the car finishes and chrome, soon as you can. The stuff is pretty corrosive.

Masks and goggles are both a definite when outside during ash fall. I also won't be doing un-necessary driving until we get a good rain or snowfall. What driving I do will be without the heater kicked on as I don't want to suck it inside with me.
I did get s small collection off my windshield for my sister as she works with disabled kids and one of the kids she said would love to see it. I'm glad I got it when I did as the winds kicked up last night and most of it has blown off the surface of my van already this morning.

I remember when we got hit by Mt. St. Helens - roofs collapsed and tons of paint damage. The upside - people bottled it and sold it in gift stores and made a clay out of it and turned it into pottery (that was actually pretty cool).

You are always having some kind of crazy weather up there.
Here's a link to the "official" site about the volcano for the DPC'ers.

I hope that all of you stay safe, and have no lasting health effects from the ash fall.

I remember that time - was horrible. I am so happy I do not close enough to get covered with that much ash. Just enough to dirty my snow and create a small mess.

Here is another pic. I scraped the top surface of the snow and you can see the color difference. This morning the smell of sulfur is stronger than during the actual ash fall. It stinks out there.

I remember when we got ash all over the place from Mount St. Helens. At least I was a kid so I didn't care. :)
