A business friend of mine lost a major multimillion dollar deal due to spam filtering.
He spent six months developing a project with an agency that represent the Niagara Grape Grower's Association (aka winemakers). When the tender arrived via email for him to provide a bid, that he felt certain to win due to the uniqueness of his solution devised along side the client, it went into his company's gateway spam box.
Why? Because the word "grape" includes the word "rape" within it. The spam filter saw this portion of the word and filtered away the entire file including the PDF tender documents. When the client called and asked why my friend had not submitted a bid, my friend said that the tender had never arrived.
Once they found the tender in their company's spam filter, it was too late. Millions of dollar went to a competitor who was less sophisticated and had no spam filters. They also found hundreds of other derailed emails, including more than 20 other tender request packages.
Ouch, Ouch, Ouch!

Unfortunately it happens all the time. That's why one of the state agencies I've worked for doesn't allow filtering at all. The employees get deluged with spam but there isn't an automated system to cause problems. |

I don't use a spam filter program with my business email. I just can't afford missing out on something. There are a few key words that will never show up in my business email which I have placed on the server to filter out... but otherwise, I just delete the junk mail as it comes in...

I got your PM to me, and replied. any luck? My only guess would be to check the email you signed up with and make sure it's the same as the one you are checking for your PM's. |

I'm curious though, cause you had to reply to a message sent to you by the site in order to become a member. You obviously got that email. |

Yes. I got that and many more including PMs, copies of PMs I sent, and newsletters but they all stopped sometime in Dec. The most recent in my Inbox is dated Dec 5.
No luck, and I have checked.

Have you heard anything back from mail.com? I'm guessing that it's something that they've done. Maybe if they can't fix it, you can consider getting a yahoo or hotmail account for dpc purposes?

Call your ISP and find out if they have implemented a spam filter on their server without notifying you.

mk- I heard from Mail.com three times. They said they needed a copy of the e-mail message that did not get thru to be forwarded to them from the original sending address, not from me. I asked our admins to do this three times. The first time I got no answer. The second time Drew did forward such a message but from the wrong address. I have not heard from them since my third request. I have also asked Mail.com if the problem could be resolved without such a forwarded copy, and if they could contact the admins directly. No reply yet.
kirbic- I don't think it is an ISP problem as my address is with a web-based e-mail server; and because I have accessed the e-mail server using two different ISPs with the same result. |
