I probably would have fallen for it if it wasn't for the thread. Good try though Langdon! ;-)

Nothing happened on April 1. When an organization adopts a "Jackass the Movie" business model, the descent is a slippery slope.

Maybe the SC should look into the team voting. I thought voting was supposed to be a solo activity. Fix the voting irregularities, like ribbon winning images receiving 1,2,3, and then we'll all have a more receptive attitude towards pranks on April 2.

DPC should put up a poll asking if it was funny or not. Personally I wasn't overly amused and that was after I knew it was a prank. Guess I'm just Mr. No Fun. Bah humbug!

After the initial "What?" reaction and a couple of moments of worry, I was not offended or upset. It was done in FUN--something most of us could use more of.

Aberrant votes are not an irregularity. They define the boundaries of a normal bell curve. I'm well aware of some consistent low voters and even a couple of reverse voters. However, separating "troll" votes from genuine personal feelings is an even slipperier slope than the one you're imagining. Ribbon winning entries obviously still win ribbons regardless of the wacko contingent.

I agree with your statistical analysis comments, with regards to individual voters.

I think perhaps some peoples reactions are a hidden sign, that some of us take our entries too seriously to the point of panicking or feeling betrayed at being disqualified to the point of overriding common sense.

Who's side am I on? Muhahahaha you will never find out!

I thought the joke was amusing. On top of that I think SC keeping in the spirits of days is what makes this a tighter community. It keeps SC close to the community and shows that they pay attention.

Now if SC could just go and fix the prank they are playing on my free study score. Looking at it, that must be joke right?

I wish we had messed with the scores.. . . .:(

Damn!! ...Just when I see an opportunity to extricate my dismally-scoring entry, you tell me it's a joke!?!?

Is there any side challenge team voting associated with the current FS challenge?

My point is.... the SC should be (and probably is) checking friend/foe voting correlations, rather than facilitating pranks and tricks on April 2. I've only entered 249 challenges and cast 40,000+ vptes, so I'm not an authority on anything. Anecdotally, the votes received on the FS challenge are not normal. It genuinely "feels" like there is unusual behavior, based on score swings (down only) and general score level on an okay image. Even if there are no side challenge competitions on the current FS, there are teams out there somewhere. Just would like to see voting continue to be a solo activity.

So, in other words, if I am hearing you correctly, you have no evidence of foul-play, no motive for foul play, but we should be investigating because it *could* be a possibility?

My entry is totally worth more than a 4.6 so clearly something is wrong! I demand an audit, I want the names and addresses of every voter along with their votes and account passwords!

Riiiight... it's probably those darn Minnesota Vikings. We already actively monitor for team/buddy voting, and even in the very rare instances where we find something, the net effect of their votes is negligible. The overwhelming majority of a lousy score comes from a lousy (or poorly received) entry.

No evidence, just a "sense" of some unusual behavior, based on watching vote behavior on quite a few challenges. (I don't think I'm the only one.) The whole thing about not finding the April 2 prank humorous is related to a general sense of ill-advised marshaling of resources by the management and supervisors. I'm not mad, just disappointed. The jokes and pranks should be the sideshow, rather than the raison d'être of this excellent photo contest website.

Hi Spider-sense is tingling. 'Nuff said.

As an aside I was disappointed when I saw the apology. My image is getting rocked in the voting right now and if I don't think I can self-DQ. Which brings up another point: If there are indeed shenanigans going on and people request a self-dq would it still follow the normal rules? (This is one reason we shouldn't have any more April Fools surprises...people often react strangely to them).
