I told Mrs. Wonderful today that I wasn't renewing my membership at the Gun Club, because I wanted to save that $100 toward a Canon 10D. Her response was, that if I got a new camera then she would get a new sewing machine. Is it worth it? Between the two items we are talking $4K.

That must be one heck of a sewing machine. I bought one for my wife for about $300, and it works great.

While I don't bat an eye at the price of a new mid to high end camera the price of a new mid to high end sewing machine boggles my mind. The camera you're sure to get use out of. If she will get the same level of use out of the sewing machine you have little to complain about.

The ones I was looking at just after Christmas were in the $2000 - $2500 range. Sewing machines can be quite pricey. I was amazed when I saw the machines where you could download patterns off the internet and have it automatically do complex embroidery.

Spoken like a man who has been there, LOL!

My hubbies "toys" (bikes, surfboards, etc.) used to come first all the time, but since I've gotten interested in photography, he's become very understanding.

Buy the camera and get the wife a sewing set, needles and threads - it would be more satisfying to make the cloths by hand rather than some fancy machine!! Sweeten her up by buying her a nice new frying pan!!

:-p

Could not be better, if you can afford it.

You want a camera, she wants a sewing machine, buy both, keep you both busy and happy.

You will have a wonderful quiet time to get to know your camera, don't have to feel guilty not spending time on her. She's busy.

When you get her the sewing machine why not go out and get some blue shirts for her to embroider the DPC logo on them :)

Damn! If you can get her to make some threads for you, you'll be the best dressed photographer on DPC. ;0

Thanks for the advice, but I think she is backing off that statement. She pays the bills and actually knows how much money I don't have. She has a Viking Husqvarna which cost over 2K. I think it does everything but telepathy.
