How come CS4 doesn't allow you to select highlights anymore?

(ctrl+shift+alt+~)

Don't know.

Adobe took more than that away from us.

Try selecting the entire frame, then modify>contract the selection. That stopped working with CS4.

I believe that you can select highlights by using CTRL+Click on the thumbnails in the channels palette.

You could go to Select, then Color Range, then pick highlights from the menu.

I don't know of a keyboard shortcut, but you could assign one, I assume.....

I found out how to select the highlights... (CS4 only)

Instead of SHIFT+CTRL+ALT+~

Use CRTL+ATL+2

Hah, beat me to it... essentially all those keystrokes moved two keys right:
CS3 and earlier:
Ctrl+Alt+~ for RGB luminosity
Ctrl+Alt+1 for Red channel
Ctrl+Alt+2 for Green channel
Ctrl+Alt+3 for Blue channel

CS4
Ctrl+Alt+2 for RGB luminosity
Ctrl+Alt+3 for Red channel
Ctrl+Alt+4 for Green channel
Ctrl+Alt+5 for Blue channel
