I know that many of you are good with nature questions, so I'm hoping you can help.

First, I found some sort of butterwort plant in the sale aisle at Lowes this afternoon and felt bad for it, so I bought it. The "directions" are just vague enough to cause confusion - it's in a plastic terrarium now, but I can't figure out if I should take it out so that it can breathe/catch bugs to eat. I know I need distilled water for it, and that it needs humidity - since the air is so dry, I guess the terrarium is necessary? (I've spent two hours on Google and can't seem to find much that's useful or not contradictory.) Does anyone have one of these? Can you give me suggestions on how to care for it?


Second, I saw this at a local park the other day. It's eggs. I don't know what from, although I assume some sort of fish. The pond is rather large and appears deep in the middle. I don't know what kind of fish live there, although I know some must, I've seen people ice fishing. It's in Northeast PA. Any ideas?

I don't think it's this, but it's the only idea I have.

as to your butterwort, I did a little searching, and you probably already found this. But this might explain why you're getting different care instructions:

# Butterworts require a varying amount of moisture, depending on the species, so investigate the needs of your particular plant.

* Pinguicula planifolia requires very wet conditions, and can even survive submerged in water for extended periods of time.
* Pinguicula caerulea and P. lutea are most often found on drier ground, but should never be allowed to completely 'dry' out.

Thanks - this is what I read on the one site. I'm having a hard time figuring out what species mine is - the label on the container just says "butterwort" (real helpful, huh?).

I tend to think it's just the common version (p. vulgeras, I think it's called). But since the species vary so much in what they like, I want to be more certain.
