I know this is a photo site, but I also know we have some docs on here. If there are any neurologists who would not mind me asking them a question, please PM me. I simply need to hear an unbiased answer - meaning you obviously have no ties to the local hospital here so I don't fear you recommending procedures or surgeries just to make the hospital or yourself some $$$. This has to do with herniated discs and associated problems. |

I once helped put together a book on spinal anatomy, but I'm not qualified to recommend for or against any particular procedure(s). But it's good you're trying to get multiple opinions. You might look for medical information at emedicine.com -- they have professionally-oriented articles there. You might also see if you can find others who've faced the same decision and get some personal perspectives ... |

I have some herniated discs and I think they may be causing other problems that I am now having. The one suggestion I got from my doctor was to have laser micro discectomy surgery - but then she has a vested interest in sending people to the surgeon and in having procedures done in the hospital. Even if she is really thinking I need that, the neurosurgeon at our hospital tends to lack in good skill (he has crippled a few folks in just the past couple of years). If I go to another hospital my insurance will only cover part of the surgery, and I do not have the money to go elsewhere. I need to find out what other options are out there, without the witch doctor type stuff. I feel like I am stuck under a very heavy rock and a hard place. |
