when do you think the first dslr will drop below 600. Who do you think would manufacture it?

Canon, Q3 2006.
Now if we can only find this thread then...

I had the same question so did some searching, most reliable sources are saying Don't Hold Your Breath...sales are way too high and the higher end digitals have little competition. I've been waiting 3 weeks for Futureshop to get the Rebel in but they're on back order for a long time.

well, I looked at the Nikon N55 at BHPhoto. You can get if for $230. That leaves $370 for the electronics and LCD. I suppose it could happen (sub $600), but I can't see it right now. The 300D is selling like hotcakes and when the Nikon D70 hits the market (probably a lens included and $999 street) it will sell too. They'll milk the market for at least a before the next price dip. The price of the 300D (sub $1000) really blew me away when it came out, because the 10D (1,500) was so much cheaper than the other DSLRs on the market ($2400 and up). We've come pretty far in the past 8 months (when the 10D was launched).

Might be Sigma that does it. They are suppose to be unveiling a DSLR in Feb. They already claim it is competitive with there SLRs. |

They already have a couple DSLRs, the SD9 and the SD10. I hope they do put out something to compete with the Rebel and the new Nikon. Nothing like a little competition to bring prices down. :)

Given history, Canon will do it.
Maybe with a Rebel II D350 or something, no lens, priced at $599.
Just my guess - time? Um, late 2005. Say Sept 2005.

ccnsidering the constant inflation in prices, and that this is pro/top end amature gear, and selling excellent at its current price.
I predict never :) |
