I was wondering how would I go about capturing motion during a bright day? Is it possible? In particular, I would like to have a car blur passed while taking a daytime shot. I adjust the shutter speed but always get the photo way too bright. I tried adjusting in photoshop but am still learning. Is it possible? |

You would need to use a neutral density filter on your lens in order to cut the brightness down. |

The closer you are to the car, the longer the focal length of your lens, and the faster the car is travelling, the faster your shutter speed can be to get a blur -- and thus the darker the image. If that does not take care of it, then the neutral density filter is the alternative. |

Well, you're getting too much light. A couple of things can diminish that; a deeper/smaller aperture (say f16 instead of f5.6) and/or a lower ISO speed (say ISO 100 instead of ISO 800).
You could also use a ND filter to slow things down some.
Have you tried shooting in manual mode? Use the camera metering in regular shutter or aperture priority mode, make note of the setting (aperture, shutter, ISO), then start with those in manual mode (adjust either the aperture or ISO once you have the shutter set where you want).
Don't know if I explained that well enough. :-/ Good luck. Maybe someone else will chime in here with a better explanation. |

It is a balance between shutter speed and how much light you let into your camera. A higher Fstop number such as F/16 or higher with a slower than normal shutter speed, 1/40 1/30 Depending on lighting a ND filter may be handy, also take into account how fast the action is you are trying to capture and how much motion blur you want in the photo. I would start off with settings like I mentioned above and go from there.
