My Laptop has a CD Rewriter which I use to save my digital photographs on.
My PC has a CD-Rom / DVD Drive & a Floppy Disc Drive.
I am unable to open the CD-R's / CD-RW's on my PC.
Can anyone help?
Idiot Proof instructions would be appreciated. |

Which OS are you using? Xp should automatically load.

What program are you using to create the CD's?
When you create a CD it's opens somethign called a session. This session can be left open so that you can add files to it at a later date. Sometime, when the session is left open, you put the disk into another computer and it can't be read properly.
I use the Nero program for making CD's. There is an option there, it basically says 'Close Session' If you have an option like this, try it and see if it helps.

If you are using roxio then it automatically puts in restrictions on using the disk on other computers.
THe best way to avoid this, in my experience, is to do one of two things
1) open the cd drive window and place all your photos there & then burn them (usually have to put a blank disc in to do so)
2) Or use a progam that allows you to use your disc in other computers. I wish I could think of one right now but I can't. HP programs will do it.
Good luck!

Sometimes one computer is newer than the other. The newer computer writes a CD at a higher speed that the older computer can't read. Check the help on the software that writes the CD and see if it tells you anything about "Compatibility with older computers"
If you are using ROXIO then the key I have found is to use Low Speed (1X-4X) media and select Full Format.

The issue is between xp and 98.. I've had the same problem. Never did find a way around it. Nothing burned in XP, roxio or nero would open in 98.
THank you so much microsoft.

1) A "closed" CD-R should read on any machine (including Mac OS)
2) Some drives do not read certain colors of CD-R as well as others; try the same data with a different brand disc
3) High write speeds can introduce more errors; try burning the same data at 1x
4) See if a newer driver for W'98 came with the burning software; if so install it (Disclaimer: all errors are due to driver incompatibility, never to the Microsoft OS, Right?) |
