Why agree with Shannon when you can disagree with Shannon simply for the point of disagreeing but adding significant entertainment value to this thread? As you'll learn, when the thread becomes a hit and everyone wants to disagree and sees the benefits of random disagreement, we will then spam other forums with this fresh approach and benefit from mass disagreement with the intent of making $6500 per day on the web for 43 minutes work. Muhahahaha
Yep, clever. ;-) |

Bumping this even though I know it's not perceived as a problem, for those of us on DPC during the US night, it starts to get a bit irritating. Another 15 spam forum posts so far today. |

Can we trace their GPS coordinates?

I don't understand why a 24 hour delay can't be imposed before a new registrant can post. When they register a notice could be given stating that it is 'suggested' that all site/forum/challenge rules be read before participation with links to same. If someone really wants to be active in the site, then they would probably read said rules (in a perfect world) and peruse the site for 24 hours without being discouraged. I cannot think of any situation where it would be necessary to post immediately upon registering. |

In 2004 I bought a brand new Canon Digital Rebel, and the flash didn't work as I expected. Even with an external 420ex, I'd get very different results on the Rebel compared to my old Powershot G2. A quick Google search led me to the DPC Forums, and I registered and received multiple answers within an hour. While I was there I noticed the site had an interesting little contest. The first rule of web sites: you don't set up roadblocks for new users.

At very most, we have one spammer per 100 new users. Do we really want to discourage the other 99 from participating due to just that one? Also, there would be nothing stopping a spammer from registering an account, then waiting the 24hrs before starting the spams...

Yes, yes, yes...you have said this (or something similar) before and basically I don't agree that this, or any other situation, warrants the need to post within 24 hours of registering. So what if you got help in a few hours? You could have gotten the same help other places, you just chose DPC. It doesn't come close to justifying the need to post immediately. Was it a matter of life or death? No...just frustration and or inexperience at the time.

I once joined a car forum because I had a problem with my car and needed an immediate answer. It's not too difficult to imagine someone who has to shoot for a client, or for a school project who needs a timely answer, and can't afford to wait 24 hours.
Also, why would they want to send a potential customer to another site, instead of letting them get help here? |

That's precisely the point. If I couldn't ask my question right away, I WOULD have looked elsewhere. You'd chase away far more potential members than spammers, and for literally no gain... anyone serious about spamming would just wait the 24 hours and post anyway. |

Also, I believe that the official spelling includes an apostrophe: D'oh!

See, the REAL reason is that the Art requires full-time moderation by the SC :-) |

I take a minute first to look and see if the person talking about this fantastic vacation spot is brand new with one post.....and then rat 'em out if they are.....8>)
It just amazes me that people have the unmitigated gall to be so obvious and rude.
In most cases these days, nobody trusts someone that comes out of nowhere and has a fantastic deal......just for YOU!!! |
Since,in addition to the Site Council, we already have at least one more dedicated spam eradicator on the job, sounds as if this problem is essentially moot.
ART put your matches away.
