I have a softbox with a 1000w bulb that I would like to use outside on shoots but I don't have anything to power it on location. What is out there or what can you suggest to power this AC powered studio softbox?

hmmm... if you are talking 1000w steady on lamp (not a strobe), you could go for something like this

but that is pricey, heavy, and bulky

might be better to spend the money on a good strobe and power pack?

you could try something like this with your vehicle, but you need to wire it directly to your battery (12 volt outlets in your car won't likely handle the load, damage could ensue if the fuses don't blow first)

I've never used any of those products, so just thinking out loud, not recommending or endorsing....

you could also use a gas powered portable generator, I guess... maybe rent one?

dunno.

Suggestions on other types of light sources??? I do have 2 strobes that I bring along with me but some times I feel like the strobe is not the right light because I want to do a special effect.

I need something fairly cheap but strong and adjustable.

BTW I am actually using something like this now to power my strobes

sandbags. get lots of sandbags.
AB makes the Vagabond and it works very very well with studio strobes. For ANY of the battery deals you need a specific kind - the cheap kind will blow up your strobes. As in BANG! and a puff of smoke blow up.
Generators should be fine. Strobes use the 60hz sine wave of wall power to modulate charging their capacitors and the cheap converter/inverters don't have it - so the strobes over charge and explode.

The vagabond is great, i've got one and use it with interfit strobes w/o a problem, but some strobes don't like the vagabond (so says paul buff). So if in doubt buy AB lights for it.

I have a cokin filter setup with ND filters I use on the lenses as part of my outdoor flash stuff and it helps a lot in sunny or very bright conditions. You'll need this for studio strobes anyway as you need to get your shutter speed into the 1/125 range.

yeah and get some sand bags for windy days. this one time my strobe almost blew away when a sudden gust came up (i had my big octa softbox on that worked like a chute in that moment).

can't recomment any power packs though, since i always managed to find an outlet and some cable reels when working outside on location.
but watching this as i'm looking for a power pack now, too.

eta: i type too slow.
