Just been tidying up my computer, copying over 4.6GB of pictures taken with my 300D.
At first it said it'd take about 5 minutes, then this happened...

usually that happens when theres problems either reading or writing the data.
makes sure 1175 image still opens..
it could be corrupt on one of the drive or maybe even both. |

My XP box does that to me all the time when I go to backup images. I'm generally OK, unless I try to do multiple folders at a time. You are lucky if your machine doesn't completely lock & bomb like mine.
Good Luck! |

All images have copied over fine, had this quite a few times. Opened a handful of the images up, they all look OK.
Was trying to copy over about 20Gb of MP3's once and that came up with something like that.
DVD writer is a good idea... Wonder if the G/F will let me buy it! :-) |

For some reason, I had been thinking that DVD burners would cost a ton of money but they don't really. I just bought a Sony DRU510A from NewEgg.com for $160. That one is ranked pretty highly so I'm sure they come cheaper, too.

Good question! I didn't know because I haven't bought any yet but it looks like they run around $1.50 a piece.

DVD-R and DVD+R were fairly different prices when I was buying my drive.
I got 25 * DVD-Rs for about £18.
I got mine from here, and I've not had any trouble yet.

I fitted a DVD/CD rewriter (pioneer dvr-106d £130)this week and backup all of my photo's to 6 dvd's - took only 5 minutes to fit - well worth the investment... even for the piece of mind knowing even thing is backed up. |

I also have the Sony DRU-510A. Have used it since the summer and have no complaints, great device. There are now 8x DVD burners hitting the market, but it seems to be taking a long time for the media to catch up. I think DVD+RW, DVD-R and DVD+R are now rated to work at 4x. Unfortunately for me though, I bought it when they were still quite higher than $160.

I've got a dvd burner in the notebook.
it does -R and +R, but have taken to ritek +R as I feel they are better quality (work in absolutely everything), and about AU$2 each. (compared to $1.3 each for laser -R)
no complaints at all about it... except 2.4x is slow :) |

I purchased a Micro Advantage DVD+-RW at Office Max for $79.00 after rebates. They often have really good deals like this. It is an off brand but from what I understand, it is manufactured on the same assembly line as Mitsubishi. I haven't had one bad write yet and I have burnt about 25 DVDs already.
I purchased my DVD+R 4x disks at Office Max for $49.00 for 25 disks but then got a $35.00 Mail In Rebate. Needless to say, I purchased my two and sent my wife in for her two. Couldn't beat the deal.
LOVE MY DVD+-RW DRIVE!!!
