Looking to buy new camera soon and was wondering what others think. Is it better to buy one large memory card or multiple smaller ones. Your thoughts please. Thank you! |

what is small? what is large?
I prefer either the 128MB or the 256MB..whether or not i'm using anything above 3MP....if you buy multiple memory cards you have a higher chance of loosing one of them...so its easier to keep track of one memory card...plus i think its just so convenient having all pictures on one memory card....instead of having to switch in and out....
it also depends on how often you are gonna dump all your pictures to your computer and if your camera also has movie (MPEG or what not) features, if you are going to use your memory card to transfer files from one computer to another...hell, i'd buy two big ones....

I have a 512 MEG card and find it very useful when out shooting parties, sports or hiking trips. I also have a 256 card which comes in handy when I haven't cleaned off the 512. Hard to say exactly, but I definately recommend more than 1 card.
What cam are you looking to get?
Edit: With my Sony S75, I only had a 128 Meg card and found that I was having to delete pictures during hiking trips to make room for more. So, since my husband is now using that camera, we will be buying him an additional 256 MEG.

i prefer 2 small ones. I have 2 512mb cards and on a few occasions I have filled one up card (about 360 photos) and put the other card in and took another 250 or so shots.

I would never rely on just 1 card just in case it develops a fault, I have 1 x 512mb and 2 x 256 mb. Dont know what camera you are thinking of but I would suggest 2 x 256 mb cards they are not that expensive these days.

I would recomend one large one (512) and a smaller back up one. The reason I recomend a large one is if your camera can shoot in raw mode you will fill a 512 with about 40 photos. In large jpeg I can fit around 170 and you would be suprised how fast you can fill that up.

Thank you all for your thoughts. I am thinking I will get a Canon Digital Rebel. Am looking at 2X 256mb cards, maybe more. Once again, Thank you for your input. |
