I subscribe to eWeek mail newsletter, sometimes some interesting stuff in it. Today I just got pointed at a tutorial for using a "noScript" addon in Firefox to block Malware. I can't evaluate it because it's voice-over on streaming video, but I thought some of y'all might be interested:

I have used it for a long time and it's great. If you want less pain but less restrictions, you can subscribe to a common list (I think it's on the install now). It can be a bit annoying having it block all sorts of sites but once you use it for a bit (and with the service) it's not as intrusive as you would think. Well worth it IMO. Worst thing is a few extra clicks to allow certain scripts. The amount of scripts some sites run is scary...

I have used Noscript for a long time also. It is regularly updated (usually several times a week) and works well. Here is a compilation of screenshots showing the scripts I have it allowing and blocking for some common sites. Kudos to Langdon for keeping DPC nice and clean.
It is surprising at first to see some of the 3rd party scripts that are attempting to run when you visit various sites. |

I use it as well. It works pretty well, but can be a bit of a pain when you go to a new site, because not only do you have to allow the site, but if it's got a lot of different areas, you have to figure out which of those URLs and scripts are actually what you need. If you allow all of the site, then you aren't getting any benefits.

My experience after using it for a while,is to start at the bottom of the list, which is the main site you are on, and then allow things one at a time, going upward in the list, until everyting works. You also learn after a while what common third party sites are and what they may be doing. |
