I just got a new Nikon 70-200 2.8 lens as an upgrade from my similar Sigma lens. I have a 1.4x teleconverter for the Sigma. I was curious to see if the Sigma teleconverter would work with the Nikon lens, and it does seem to.
The Nikon lens does attach to the teleconverter, and it seems to work. I did notice that the camera will allow me to shoot at 2.8, which technically should not work (the teleconverter knocks things down a stop, so f4 is the widest I should be able to go). I'm just wondering if there's any technical reason why I shouldn't use this combination, especially considering that it seems to be erroneously allowing the f2.8? |

| Wow- none that I could possibly think of! How sharp are your pictures shooting like that? |

| It's just reporting the aperture wrong. If you look at exif from a shot, does it even 'see' the TC as attached? I am guessing no. |

hmmm .. now i might be wrong
but i would guess your teleconverter is dumb + is just not telling the camera your 2.8is really 4 .. (where as the nikon ones have a chip inside,..)
one thing you could try is shoot something farly even ,with + without at 2.8 & 4
and compare the 4 pics to see if you really are under exposing or hitting every thing right on ... |

I think it probably really is underexposing by a stop. As for clarity... I basically just fired off a few shots off my deck without really trying to be too precise. I was frankly a little concerned about whether I should even be messing with this combination, and I was a little surprised it was working at all :)
Eventually I'll likely get the Nikon TC, but at $400-ish, I'm in no rush. |
