OK -
I don't have my own studio light tent and I would like to have something more portable, less ghetto (less like my milk-carton flash reflector).
The catch is that I have a gift card from my Dad for my birthday ... so I need to use Amazon to make the purchase (yes I'm 36 and still get awesome gifts from my Dad).
So ... any thoughts on this??? Thanks in advance. |

OK -- scratch that ... I want remote flashes ...
PocketWizard???
I have an SB600 and that's it so far.
EDIT - sorry ... there's so much I "need" in the world of photog' ... and I suppose I should just use ghetto when I can use ghetto.
So I'm thinking something along the lines of a pocket-wizard instead.

I'd go for other stuff on Amazon, and make the light tent. A little cloth and a some PVC pipe and fittings and you're in business. Ghetto? not really, it can be done to look pretty nice... cheap, definitely. |

HAHAHA As soon as I saw you got a gift card from your dad I went to your name to see how old you are, I actually stopped reading to check your age, then came back and you said (yes I'm 36 and still get awesome gifts from my Dad). It was pretty funny on my end but hey that's cool that you still get gifts from dad. |

Ghetto equipment gets your ghetto photos. Save the money and get you the real stuff. |

Yes and no - there's a level at which ghetto equipment yields junk photos, but there's another level where DIY/ghetto gear is just as good (if not better) than the "real stuff."
For instance, my set of radio slaves (2 Tx, 5 Rx) cost me less than a single PocketWizard, yet fits my needs perfectly and has never let me down in any situation. And it's a bit ghetto.
This idea that you have to own the most expensive gear to get the best photos is really just marketing hype...

You might save some $ by going with these Cyber Sync puppies -- I have used them several times at a local studio: they work great, fire reliably, and cost less. I plan to buy a couple for myself.
The items I actually have experience with are these:
Transmitter
Receiver

Two thoughts.
Personal experience - light tent is a complete waste of money. You use it a few times, then it collects dust. Unless you are doing product shots for a living, which I gather you aren't.
Second thought - you went from light tent to pocket wizard in the course of 14 minutes. Take a breath. Consider your purchase. |
