We had our first field trip in Photo 1 this morning...let me tell you, having only 24 pictures at all really helps one think a lot more about composition!!! I made friends with a dog, got closer with one of the girls in my hall, and talked to an older lady who gave me a free pair of gloves. |

I am the proud new owner of a Holga with a Polaroid back. It's going to take a lot of film and inspiration to come up with decent shots for this SC. This is on of my first shots when I got the thing assembled.

I have a film camera. In storage. In Texas. I think I even still have two lenses for it. But it won't do me much good at the moment. Still considering the possibility of picking up a Canon film body, though.
Mephisto's computer won't let him talk to DPC, but he asked me to bump the thread and let folks know they can still sign up. |

Does photo paper count as film? I'm thinking of taking my pinhole experimentation down a notch and doing it the old fashioned way with the Quaker Oats can. This might be the push I need.

It's analog, so I'm guessing it counts. Go for it! |

I developed my first batch of negatives tonight...my scanner totally and completely sucks, but here's what I've got so far...
ETA: that lady gave me free gloves.

Whny not get a Holga, Deb? They're abundant and cheap. I'd love to see what you can do with a Holga. Anyone with me here?
I just picked up this fascinating book from the library. The possibilities are endless. |

Hmmm... I'd probably like a Holga. I know nothing about them. I shall perhaps read a bit this weekend and see what I can find out. |

I'm in. The first post is one of my oldies. It will be about a week before I begin posting fresh shot images. That is about how long it will take me to get one of my film cameras back from long term loan and get a roll shot and developed. Is there any free program for mac that will invert a color negative to normal colors and levels?

Do you have a scanner? I have an Epson V500, and the scanner gives me a .jpg or .tiff file that is ready to work on. |

I think I would like to join in. I was actually thinking about posting this as an off-beat suggestion for an additional challenge.
For proof of date, I was going to suggest that you had to take a photo of a newspaper with the challenge date visible. That way, it would be in the same string of negatives. |

I'm using a free trial version of Silverfast Ai, works great with most film scanners or flatbad scanners with a transmitted light unit (if that's what it's called...). it has presets for all b&w and color negative and slide films so no other additional levels or color adjusts are necessary. Saves tiff's, too.
I'll add Nobody to the list. hehe |

Too late to join in? I've been looking for an excuse to use up some old slide and negative film I have lying around. Also been meaning to teach myself how to home-develop black and white negatives. |

soooooooooooooooooooooooo........a velociraptor ate my first contact sheet.
I put stuff in to do a contact sheet and was like "meh, no need to do that whole focusing thing!" so I took the photo paper and the glass and the negatives and got it alll set up. I turn the enlarger light on and BAH! RANDOM EXTRA SHADOW! I develop it anyways and it looks kinda cool in an artistic sort of way, and I figure it's a tree cause it's got some branch looking things, y'know? So I go and I find a different enlarger, and do all that stuff, and when I'm all done (I ended up with a good contact sheet and two test strips, incase anyone was wondering) I decide to go and figure out what exactly it was that messed up my first contact sheet. I couldn't figure out how to get the negative out of the enlarger (I think it was a different kind of enlarger..?) so I just turn the enlarger on and focus. Now, this is about 2 in the morning and I'm beginning to be a little creeped out after being alone in the dark for 2 hours. Imagine my horror when a velociraptor skull comes into focus...I dashed for that light switch like it was NOBODY'S business. |

I'm loading a camera with film today, so in a few days, maybe I will have something fresh to show.

I shot about 1/2 roll of film today, and will finish the roll tomorrow. It's mostly swampy stuff.

I took two rolls in for processing last week. They said approx. 2 weeks to get it back. I have another roll in the camera which I will try an finish this weekend. Maybe this side challenge should go on for more than a month. LOL

I will eventually post something. I will. I will. I will.
My camera that I was originally going to use gave up the ghost after half a roll. It's an old Pentax H3v, and I can't find anyone around here who still fixes analog cameras! I took in a roll from a Diana+ and it should be ready on Monday.
There are a lot of reasons why digital has taken over the world. |

WTF? 2 weeks?! Here in the town we have several labs, and the one i take my 6x4.5 rolls in for developing does them in 24 hours so i can usually pick them up the next day! Do you send them to australia for developing? :D
your right, we should have an ongoing thread for analog photos and pissibly a gallery, too! even though a film gallery would border heresy on this site...haha |
