Question - mainly to site council but throwing it out there for you to chew on..

I have a freestudy entry in at the moment that was created using software that is under currently development. Now, if (and its a big if) I manage to somehow scrape the top 5 and I am asked for my original image and processing steps how would the SC validate these steps without the software? Granted the software doesn't do loads, its a refined tonemapping software quite akin to Topaz, however it does give the images a bit of `pop` and I love my freestudy entry for this month. To be honest I originally used Topaz on this shot but preferred this new applications result a lot more.

How does it work if the SC can't actually test the effect when looking at a validation created with non-available software?

cheers!

I am actually debating it and considering entering the (inferior) Topaz version.

I was half joking so the rest of us would have a chance!

I'm with Leo. In fact, I suspect you probably shouldn't enter at all! :-)

Oh, wait. Mine is going to score rather poorly. Go ahead and enter. Make Leo sweat a bit... (bwaaaahaaahaaa!)

In all seriousness, you should be able to reasonably determine if it's "legal" - ie if it doesn't create anything "new" in the photo and meets all the other criteria for advanced editing. If the SC needs to validate it, can you provide a link to the software? And if it gets past beta, will you share that with the rest of us?

Out of the box usually gets me a low score. LOL! I say go for it!

It's a fine line, but what have you got to lose? If it gets DQ'd post challenge, you will then know. Topaz and similar pugins are generally legal in advanced and I've seen many entries where an effect was applied that made an image look unrealistic. Maybe bounce the shot off someone who will agree to not vote on it.

While you've still got over a day, open a ticket, and attach the original for reference. Since Advanced is not tools-based but results-based, it does not matter what software you used, if the result is legal, it's legal no matter what path you took to get there and if it's illegal, no workaround should exist to make it legal.

kirbic, you don't look like Captain Kirk anymore! And rollover for the FS is at midnight east coast time tonight, given that February only has 28 days this year. :-)

He does to me, but I'm using the Greasmonkey script that shows me the profile pics. You are right though, the custom icon is gone and he's a plain blue shirt now.

Oops, you are right. Somehow I thought that was tomorrow night. I had mine uploaded earlier in the week, though. Voting ought to be at a brisk pace, with rollover on the weekend this time.
