Has anyone bought an off brand flash from ebay? I ordered this today, link. It's supposed to be comparable to the Canon 580EX. I know I'll never be able to afford the actual canon flash, so I'm hoping it really is close. Anyone?

The page on Ebay is no longer available.

I have a Quantaray XLF-50, which is made by Sunpak. It's about 50% more powerful than the pop up flash on my Rebel and Powershot S5. About equal in power to a 220Ex, except unlike the fixed forward 220ex, it tilts up, to bounce off the ceiling. Does not swivel, though. Nowhere near the equivalent of a 580EX, however, but superior to the pop up. For $99, I've been pleased with it.
Here's a couple of pics shot with it.

Keep an eye out on places like Craigslist and Amazon. I found a used, but almost new 430EX for $165 on amazon late least year, just after I had bought the Quantaray. I keep the Quantary in the bag with the Powershot now. It's still useful and a lot smaller than the 430.

Never heard of it, I'm afraid. Looks comparable from the pic. I guess you'll have to let us know. Most of the advice I have ever heard on flashes has been to stick with the OEM brands, even the salepeople at Wolf normally recommend not buying the Sunpak Flashes. However, The xlf-50 was a new model and I decided for the price it was worth trying. I didn't expect to find that 430 for so cheap.
