Btw, I went with Vista 64-bit and a duo-core processor on purpose since both Lightroom II and Photoshop CS4 (and other software products I use) takes full advantage of both technologies. It runs like a well tuned engine once you turn off Vista Aero and make a few configuration changes. After that it is supposedly faster than Windows XP 64-bit.

I went with a dual core processor, but my understanding was that photo editing apps were not multi core aware, and though it would improve multi tasking, my photo apps would run on a single core.

Who needs silly iconic doodads that just eat CPU cycles and degrade machine performance?

I totally agree. The video card in my new system is plenty for Aero, but the useless eye candy drives me up a wall. I have a couple extra visual bells and whistles enabled now, but my older PC running XP has most of them turned off. I just prefer simple and functional to eye candy. BTW, I feel the same way about the transparency in OSX. I have a couple of older Macs that woudl run faster if I could disable that useless feature of the interface.

I had someone ask me once why I was still using Windows 98 after I had posted a screenshot of an application somewhere. I was using XP at the time.

Just so happens that my son and I will be putting this two-headed behemoth together tonight (Two wide screen monitors). It's a bonding thing!

I had not thought about naming mine until you brought up the subject. Perhaps I should call it "Medusa".

With two heads (so far), perhaps "Hydra" would be fitting ... ;-)

Though I like "Hydra" to, the original thought for "Medusa" is that by staring at it to long you are turned to stone. Computers have done that to me before. LOL!!!
