I have a crested gecko it is about 4 months old so I cannot tell if it is a girl or boy yet. Anyways a week and a half ago I put the cover on the tank slightly crooked and the gecko escaped. I searched everywhere in my house for it. Left food out and made a mini jungle in the corner with house plants. There was no sign of the gecko anywere I thought for sure it was dead or the cat and dog got it. Last night I woke up in the middle of night went downstairs and found him in the middle of the living room. Its tail was gone and looked like it was about to die with Eyes sunk in. I put em back in the tank misted lots of water and put food out and all is looking well. I think the gecko looks strange without its tail. I read in the wild most adults don't have there tails because they have fallen off. here is a picture of the gecko this afternoon.

So cute! Glad you were able to find him. I had a similar experience last week when babysitting my sisters hamster while she was on vacation. I put it in the little ball to run around while I was showering. Well when I came back out the top was of and he was gone. Finally found him about 1 hour later behind the dryer of all places. And your right he looks funny without his tail.

The cat probably ate his tail.

Congratulations on getting him/her back! I lost my dog for two months last year. I finally got him back all stinky like a skunk, hungry, and dehydrated but his tail was intact (thankfully). Geckos can grow their tails back, right?

My gosh, he's sooo cute! And it's really nice to hear a happy ending :D
The lack of tail just gives him character :)

any type of lizard will drop their tail is they are scared, alone, not had food or water.

I have several Geks in my garage and a whole bunch that I rescue every day from the cats/ It will grow back

It is a crested gecko their tales do not grow back because they have a muscle and a pad at the end. or at least that is what I have read.

if it is a crested gecko , then you are right, its tail will not grow back as it is a muscle

young ones tend to drop their tails often,

awww, poor little guy. I think it's kinda cute without it's tail. Just think of it like a dog who got its tail docked :)
