Speaking of shootin birds read this:
VIENNA, Va. (AP) -- For a Virginia doctor, squirrels are a man's best friend, too.
Thomas Shepler, a hand surgeon, shot a hawk to death in his backyard when he said the bird was eyeing a young squirrel that he and his wife had helped raise.
Shepler, 65, said the hawk had previously killed an adult squirrel near his suburban Washington home in Vienna. When the doctor tried to chase away the bird over the weekend by yelling and throwing a crowbar at it, the hawk didn't leave the area.
So Shepler got a shotgun and killed it.
A police officer heard the shot Saturday and Shepler was arrested. He was charged with discharging a firearm in public and cruelty to animals.
Shepler says he cares about animals and is feeling a lot of anxiety and embarrassment over the shooting.

Just for my peace of mind, somebody remind me of the address of the power-plant parking lot. |

I am not sure of an exact street # but according to the peg on my GPS we met at or around 500 Water Street. Only problem is I do not remember exactly which place we were at when I pegged it. I recall going to 2 or 3 different spots.

I think we also met one place, and then drove to the factory/dam area, right? |

We did. Here's the local map:
We met down at the park and then went up to the dam. I think it's probably a better idea to just meet up at the dam this time 'round, no? |

Yes, We met in the parking lot across the street from the mobile station, I remember calling you guys from there and then turned around to see you on the other side of the street. That would be the area where I pegged so the address I gave above should be pretty close to the mobile station. I suggest meeting across the street from there again.

If you have a moment checkout the picture I took this afternoon. It is a total of 169 Megapixels, 50 exposures stitched together. . I had the whitebalance set incorrect so it has a bit of a blue hue to it. didnt feel like fixing all 50 frames so I left it be. Zoom in and find the ducks. Picture was taken with a Canon A590IS

Very cool... getting out and playing with the new toy, I see? Methinks the dam & power plant at sunrise should make a pretty nice panorama, eh? |

Yes I was thinking that also, unless the temp is -5 again. Then I think a 360 of us around the breakfasts table would be pretty cool. Which I believe I will attempt anyway if lighting permits.

I have been keeping an eye on the extended forecast, So far we are looking pretty good. Might be chilly in the morning but certainly will not be bitter cold like last year. |

There are locks along the Fox River, and there is other open water on fast sections of river. Not so long ago (less than 20 years)there were almost no eagles in that area. |

Are we still on for 6:00 am this Sunday? I'm looking forward to it! It's going to be cold, but not as bad as last year. Low Saturday night around 7, high Sunday in the mid 20's. Dress warmly! |

Dam works for me. Fifteen minutes or so of shooting, then adjourn to a restaurant? |

02/26/2009 11:52:15 AM · #48 |
15 minutes of shooting or 2 minutes of being in a huddle saying this is too cold lets get breakfast first then come back to shoot. haha
I was just thinking about last year and trying to remember how to get back by the dam, Anyway during my brainstorm I thought it would be a good idea to remind Fritz to bring his ice skates or wear cleats on his shoes.
ETA: I do know how to get to the dam now.

LOL, I had forgotten about that little escapade!
I'll be there (Dam) @ 06:00. Weather looks survivable.
ETA: National Weather Service predicts partly cloudy Saturday night, low of 11°F for Prairie du Sac

haven't heard from you for awhile, are you going to be there?
Originally posted by Ironworker: How does Sunday March 1st at Prairie du Sac sound? We could shoot eagles on the Wisconsin River, breakfast, the Baraboo bluffs, Ferry's point, or Natural Bridge state park, lunch, and the sculpture yard at Delaney's surplus in the afternoon. |
