| So, I'm in the market for a Canon Speedlite 580EX II, but I've been coming across a lot of used 580EX's at some decent prices, but upon further research, all the retail prices seem to be all over the place (varying by hundreds of dollars). I was wondering how much would be a fair price to pay for a lightly used 580EX these days? At what point would the deal be good enough on a 580EX to buy it over a 580EX II? |

I bought a brand new 580EX II off ebay for $360 including shipping from this place:
Valley Communications Systems
The 580EX II controls are 100% integrated into your 50D and your Canon lenses, but not the Tamron ones. That is something new with your 50D and my 5DII.
With your two Canon Zoom lenses it will automatically adjust the width of the flash after you set your zoom... you don't have to do anything... it gets that information directly from the camera. That means if you zoom to 68mm the 580EX II will automatically adjust its flash for 68mm... that is really neat! That works out as far as 105mm.
I have no idea if the 580EX does that, but don't think so.

Try typing 580EX into the search box then. |

Thanks for the info, I am somewhat aware of the differences between the 580EX and the 580EX II from my own research. I checked the website you linked to but they seem to be an A/V rental place that also sells things on the side? I looked for their store on eBay but I didn't find anything... it was a one time auction I presume?
Also, I am mainly concerned about:
1. How much would you pay for a 580EX (not the EX II)
2. How cheap would the 580EX have to be to convince you to buy it over a 580EX II?
