I have been using CS2 for a while now and was wondering if CS4 would have any additional benefits for me. I mostly dodge and burn and overlay and sharpen. Any opinions?

I have been standing at the foot of that bridge myself. Actually since the release of CS3. What would justify upgrading from CS2?

Probably not if that is all you do, all those are pretty easily available even in PSElements, there are a lot of upgrades in CS4 from CS2 that you would probably like, but if you are mostly using those you mentioned, it probably isn't worth spending the extra money, maybe get another lens, :-)

I can't do HDR right now so I am thinking that this would be one upgrade. But then I say to myself "why would I do HDR" and then I think "maybe I don't know why because I don't have it". I am not sure that there is much outside of this that is new. Maybe there is...

You should be able to do HDR with CS2. File/Automate/Merge to HDR

Oh, really? hmm. I guess I don't need to upgrade then...lol I never knew that. I am stuck in my own little rut.

From doing my own research about the same question here are some things I've found:

-If you're a RAW shooter then consider that ACR is much improved in CS4 over CS2.
-If you do a lot of selections then consider that CS4 has new selections tools making things much easier over 2
-If you convert a lot to B&W then consider that CS4 (and CS3) have a new B&W tool that gives a lot more control.
-Unless you're purchasing a full copy, then the upgrade price is only $200 at most.
-Maybe you should consider LR instead. Geared more for the photographer.
-Consider that cutting edge software may require an upgrade in computer hardware, especially your video card.

I could be wrong, I only have CS2 and am another interested convert, but, I do believe CS4 offers more bells and whistles for HDR, as well as RAW, and a few other cool tools.
