Finally got my slide/film scanner so I could start converting my grandfather's slide collection to digital and thought I would post a few to see what people thought. His work was my inspiration to get into photography.
Here's a link to his collection in my portfolio. I'll continue to add my favorites in this folder.
Thanks

Hi there! You'll have a lot of fun seeing some of those slides 'come to life' again. I got the same scanner a year ago and am amazed with the results it can produce. It's a shame I took soo many shots with inferior equipment ... I've learned that it is necessary to be "CLEAN" in the whole process of scanning... from removing hte slide from it's storeage location to cleaning off the dust with air just prior to the scan. Digital Ice will clean up the damage to a slide but the trade off cleaning up dust isn't worth it. I was also quite disappointed in using the stack loader as it jams up much more than I would have expected. Ektachrome is the only type of mount that I can expect to get four or five consective scans with out it jamming up. Plastic mounts will not function in the stack loader either. |

Yes the Nikon SF-200 designed to do 50~55 slides. I have about 50,000 'keeper' slides and hoped to scan them unattended in batch processes overnight... That will never happen! The best I have ever been able to do without my intervention (as it jams) is 9 slides ...6~7 with Ektachrome is the most I can hope for... Kodachrome 3 if I'm lucky. Plastic ONE at a time .... The vast majority of my slides are listed above ... I was quite loyal to Kodachrome/Ekatchrome... have offerd to do them for friends but it is not a slam dunk to load them up in a batch process and wake to finding all 55 slides scanned!

hmm..maybe I won't make that investment then. All these slides are Kodachrome. Thanks for the info.

Chris, I would encourage you to look into the issue further.... I havn't had the time to be able to find a solution to the problem yet I have to believe that one exists. When I was looking into buying the scanner I found a lot of information on an English site that gave some details on making a device that would work 'most of the time' to allow batches to be done. It sounded like something that was 'cobbed up' and I thought that Nikon would surely come up with a solution... yet the disclaimer in the manual just about rules out any type of mount for doing multiple batch scans.... go figure.... There must be aa way If I find it (or if you do) please share the information... Thanks
Tim

One bump, then it'll die. Curious to know what people think of my grandfather's work.

The images are nice, I prefer the trees image.
Whose copyright is on the images? Your's or your Grandfather's?

I added my grandfather's copyright. His name was C. L. "Bud" Beller.
The trees were my favorite of what I've got scanned so far.
