Blah, blah, blah...

4. If I deactivate the CS3, can someone else then install it and use it?

As far as I know you can't upgrade across platforms.

When you download an upgrade you need to have the previous version installed or the serial number handy but since you're changing platforms that probably wouldn't work.

I don't blieve this is correct. You'll need to call Adobe and follow their directions. You do have to show ownership tho. My friend had to return his windows disk in order to have it replaced with a Mac disk. I'm not sure how it's done if downloaded.

Meaning you can't upgrade across platforms. What you are referring to is trading in the program from the old platform in order to get the one for the new platform.

I believe nshapiro did this not too long ago. He may have some pointers for you.

A moot point now. I purchased the iMac and CS4 full version tonight. I appreciate all the answers.

Off now to learn a new system...

Upgrade can be from one platform to another. I had the same case, CS3 in windows to CS4 in mac and it was possible to do that.

Can anyone answer this question?

Seeing as you have the full version of CS4, then someone else can acquire the (full) version of CS3 that you also have.

Deactivating it might help, but it's likely whoever takes over the software will have to speak to the activation techs at Adobe. You could try speaking to them yourself if you wish to sell CS3, but aside from the hassle of doing so, you should be able to pass the other version on to someone else...

Ok, I answered my own question: when the deactivation is done and the serial number is erased from the computer, the message window tells you CS3 can now be installed on another computer.
