Word on the wire..

Canon 100-400 f4-f5.6 IS MK2 - Push/pull gone, 4th Gen IS, weather sealed, new lens coatings.

Canon 24-70 f2.8 IS - as before with 4th gen IS and new lens coatings.

Out of these the 100-400 appeals to me the most.. but lets wait and see eh?

Will be so bummed if that 100-400 upgrade is true. Just bought the the thing last fall, goofy push/pull and all.

I am literally days away from getting the cash for my 100-400, however may stick it in the bank for a few more months to see if anything is announced.

Terje told me on IM there's a 17mm L tilt-shift also coming out. He previewed it at the Canon factory.

Anybody know the details of the 4th Gen IS vs. 3rd gen. Bells and whistles or something substatial?

Canon 17mm T/S lens?

If it's true, it's a heck of an optical feat. It's REALLY hard to get any usable shift out of the limited lens box in a 35mm-type camera at this wide an angle.

I might be completely off base here, but I saw a schematic somewhere, I think on the canon website. I think it is a complette redesign of the 3G using magnets to shift the lens around. Regardless of the phyics behind it, there is a difference.

One think that I was never that impressed about was the IS on the 100-400, it's alright but the IS on my 70-300 is much better so imagine a new release will be awesome

Well, Terje said he held one, and I have no idea why he'd lie to me. He said they'd announce it next week.

Why don't they just make 3rd gen the highest gen?

New IS implementation might be cool, but I actually like the push/pull on my 100-400. I think it makes using it really easy, especially since it is over such a long range.
