My first article went up yesterday! I'm writing about being unemployed for the Denver edition of The Examiner. I'm all proud and stuff, even if I do still need a real job :-)

Good work on the article, Rebecca. One upon a time I did a lot of that stuff myself, freelancing articles to magazines and newspapers. It's exciting, and frustrating too :-)

Good luck to you!

Nice article and good luck in the job hunting. You forgot to mention that one of the benefits of not having a job is that allows you a few minutes to come back to DPC - welcome back!

Great article! Shows a really positive attitude and it's genuinely useful for others in that situation too.
Wishing you bestest luck!

Congrats on the new "job". Your column, though not on a fun topic, is going to be satisfying.

I was a weekly newspaper columnist for three years. I sure had fun with mine and I'm certain you will with yours. I discovered writing abilities I didn't know I had and that was cool. The secret to my success was combining truth and humor. My column was very popular and made me both a hero and a villain in the community. My writings proved to be more controversial than I ever dreamed possible and led to involvement in city politics including City Council testimony on a highly charged topic. It was a blast!!!!

Good luck... you are off on a grand, new adventure!

I'm posting these every couple days. The idea is that there are tons of articles out there giving out career advice, but the advice is coming from people who have jobs. It doesn't seem like anything out there really addresses what it's like to be unemployed, especially today. I figure I'm in a good position to write about it, with a writing degree, a resourceful and restless personality, and a ton of access to resources other people generally haven't thought about. My perspective is that of the job seeker, and everything that entails, from dealing with family and friends to questioning the strength of my resume. I hope that someone finds it valuable.

I have a few more columns up... feel free to take a look, and feel free to pass it along to anyone who might find it helpful!

I think it's really just starting to gain momentum, but yeah, it's a great site. It's all community-contributed content, but they screen their contributors so they can be reasonably sure they can write and know what they're talking about.
