I just hit 10,000 photos taken with my D300 -- seems impossible! Anyway, after photo DSC_9999, the automatic numbering began again at DSC_0001. I know I can go in and change the numbering scheme. Any recommendations? Anything wrong with just changing a letter and starting with "DSD_0001" or something like that?

nothing wrong withthat
how do you sort to start with >>???
i figure i've hit 70-100k pictures in the last 10 yrs & i store by date
year->month->year-mo-da
so the odd time it does wrap around it's a non issue because it's only once in awhile
just keep going 9999 -> 0001
(just passed 20000 on the D3 ;)

| I changed my prefix (when I bought the D300) from DSC to 300 (to distinguish the D70 files), then when it hit 10,000 I changed it to 301_xxxx. When I hit 20,000 I will change it 302 etc. For me, this works well and has nothing to do with how I archive them on my HD. |

I start a new folder each month (this month's folder is named "2009-02") and dump everything into it. I started looking around for a system that would allow me to add multiple tags, but I kind of forgot about it. The other day I was looking for a specific photo and had to look through hundreds of thumbnails!
Anyway, thanks for your response, and I'm glad you're getting good use out of your D3. |

This is pretty much what I did, too. |
