You hit the nail on the head here. I personally wouldn't have it any other way. The mass hysteria that ensues is just too much fun.

Agreed...

Since this is supposed to be an "improvement of another shot" challenge, and if we cannot refer to the original shot for comparison, what exactly are we voting on?

Some people are viewing it this way, and some as a Free Study where they are simply voting on the quality of the picture.

Given the way the challenge was set up and described, either of these ways is fine, as long as you vote in a consistent way on all the images.

It's obvious that there are problems with the way this was set up, and you can be (pretty) sure that those issues will be addressed before there's another challenge which requires comparisons of some type.

What if you look, based on the title (because it references title/challenge, etc), and overlook it?

Then, you penalize a picture for still making it "easy" to find.

Hope no one utilizing this method does that, because, well, that would be unfortunate.

It's just a pity because it sounded like a really fun challenge. But even if the link to the original shot is included in the title, this comparison business is a very laborious voting process :-(

I'm too gray to vote, but I commented on my favorites. Don't know if I saw any that were better than the originals.

Ok, I started trying to track them down--found 19% of them, it took a heck of a long time, and couldn't find many of them. I'm currently at 19% voted. Should I continue and maybe get to 30-40%, and leave 60-70% without a vote? (I really wanted to compare for those people that worked hard to improve the original--I don't want to treat it as a free challenge, because it doesn't seem quite fair to those people.) Anyway, Is it better to vote for some and not others--or should I just stop at 19% so none of the votes count...?

Hmmmm! There are only a handful of images which I could not find related to a Brown ribbon. 95% are not hard to find. Use the posted thumbnails. Or, use the search functions of the website. You can search for photos or challenges or titles. It's a rewarding experience, which provides much entertainment.

And I think we're all in absolute, unconditional agreement now that voting MUST reflect how much improved the entry is over the original.
