I'm going to Japan again this summer for a family vacation. I've been there before so I would like to ask for some suggestions for some different places to visit. Last time we went to Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Hiroshima, Tokyo, Nikko, and Fuji Hakone.

We are flexible but have to spend some time in Osaka.

Thanks!

Near to osaka, koya san is one of things i am going to visit this summer.

Other than this since you have already visited near and around osaka, it is difficult to suggest.

You said family so i must assume you are at least three people visiting japan.

Edited to add:

kumamoto is one of my favorite place in japan (south).
Aso town:

youfuin:

in the way between yufuin and aso

I agree with zxaar - go to Kumamoto. There is one of the best (albeit reconstructed) castles in Japan in Kumamoto City. Mt Aso is a great place, with the volcano and its huge caldera. Also, the Amakusa Islands is a good place to go in summer. From Aso, you can go into Miyazaki Prefecture to visit the gorgeous gorge at Takachiho.
Then at the other end of Japan, Hokkaido is worth a visit in summer.

And when you say you've been to all those places, I bet there's a lot of stuff that you haven't seen in each of them.

Yes. I agree that I haven't seen all that there is to see in those places. I've actually spent a month in Tokyo and know that there is a lot to that city. My kids will be traveling with an educational tour for about 10 days then the rest of us will meet them at the end of their tour to spend another two weeks. I'm just looking for suggestions that we should consider. Koya san looks like an interesting place!
