well, I was up to 5.75 around 40 votes and stayed there for awhile. now I'm back to 5.5 and been staying there for about 30 votes now. It's strange how this works, my last photo slowly rose throughout the voting--and a lot of people mentioned that theirs were slowly rising throughout. Anyone notice voting trends over the challenges? |

Still doing under the low 5 I anticipated, but a great comment from Thingfish, who totally gets the idea I was conveying.

I am in the process of voting and going through all the entries carefully and I am only giving votes and comments to those entries that I feel are the very best in this challenge and for which I give a score of 5 or higher. In the last challenge ( SILENCE) I gave scores and comments to every entry but because of many people complaining about a low score and in many cases not liking my honest, constructive comments I have decided to now only vote and give comments on the best entries. ( well, the ones I consider the best anyway) There are lots of excellent entries in this challenge and it's a big job doing this as you will all appreciate I am sure.
Here is how far I am at the moment: I will go back and look at at them all again when I am finished and adjust the scores again as i see fit.
Details: Photograph something that's related to or creates thoughts of an ending.
Stats: You have rated 61 of 146 images (42%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 61 images (42%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 8.1967.

I've also received a wonderful comment from ThingFish. So far it is my only comment, but a good one. =) |

I'm pleased that you liked my entry and probably gave it a high vote, but I do also have to point out that this can be considered "cherry picking" and can skew the challenge results. I'd rather get some feedback telling me why my entry is not doing as well as I hoped, than just an armload of low votes with no comments to tell me why it's perceived poorly.
I also don't know how people are getting these offended PM's about critical comments. I have not yet gotten a nasty PM in response to a comment, and I leave as much critical feedback as anyone else.

Look out everyone the dreaded 2 voters are getting busy.
I have been getting 7, 8 and 9s with the occasional 10 and
now just got hit by a 2 as did a few others. |

That's too bad, ThingFish. I'd rather get an honest score and an explanation, than no score at all. Your comment on my last photo opened my eyes about something that hadn't occurred to me before. I think it's normal for people to fight criticism before realizing that it's worthwhile.
I'm trying to give more feedback on things I rate low. I hate it when someone gives a 3 (or even a 4) without explaining why they think it's so bad. I really would like to know what problem they had with it. |

Good point Yospiff. Thought about what you say and what i think I will do from now on is the following.
A: I will be giving votes on all entries in the challenges that I vote in.
B: I will always give comments to my top 10 choices and show the score in the comments.
C: I will always give comments to my lowest scoring 10 choices and show the score in the comments.( if the score is below a 5/ I seldom give a score less then 5)
D. I will give a comment to any other entry that attracts my attention in a special way even if it is not in the top 10 or lowest 10 but I feel it deserves a comment for possessing some special quality whatever that is or if I feel I might be able to offer some constructive advice whatever that is.
Ps. When I have an "OFF" day some of my comments might sometimes seem a little weird at first glance but I wouldn't want you to worry about that too much.

I think that a great many of us appreciate this Thingfish, possibly more than the comments on a great shot as it helps people to improve. |

Agreed! The comments on the low and mediocre scoring images are far harder to come by, and I appreciate them, even if they are not always what I want to hear. |

ouch, the low scores just hit me too! either 2 3's or a 4 and the dreaded 2.
but other than that, a hawk just flew and landed right outside my window 5 feet away. of course my camera didn't have a card in it! |

Not if commenters think it DNMC! I have more comments on my end entry than my other two current entries combined.
I think there is an advantage though, in having an image people have to consider for a while before they decide DNMC. At least they're looking. Well, I think they're looking. All my scores suck but I'm thoroughly enjoying the ride at least... |

Just finished with scoring and voting this challenge. Now on to the next one. I am having more fun doing this then taking photographs and I honestly don't know when and if I will enter a challenge myself again. This is far more fulfilling then taking photographs and lots more fun. And I am much better at this then at taking photographs too. My last challenge i entered was "Silence" and that was a total disaster for me. It's left my mind in an unhinged state somehow. I am even contemplating putting my photo gear on ebay for a quick sale that's how bad it is. But I will keep my trusty Fischer-Price camera just in case I decide to enter the odd challenge in the future.

Stats: You have rated 146 of 146 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 85 images (58%) in this challenge.

Does Not Meet Challenge.
people question your image's tie to the challenge topic. |

Denied!! You must continue shooting and sharing your images. No arguing!!
And thanks for the comment - gave me a chuckle! I shall PM you momentarily and explain why. :-) |

Unhinged
i am not ashamed to say
i am afraid
of large dogs barking
in open windows
i am afraid of squirrels
in cities
that stare and sit very very still
certainly i
am afraid
of ceiling fans coming
unhinged
of toddlers walking on sidewalks
suddenly running into oncoming traffic
i am afraid the noises in the walls are real
i am afraid of the delivery van
under the highway
covered with graffiti
i was once afraid of the internet
and the Beatles
now i̢۪m afraid of spoiled milk and high definition
walking under the telephone lines
looking up
i am afraid
all this talking will never stop.

Thanks for the comments ThingFish (I got one of yours and it was very nice to receive indeed).
I'd hold off on selling any gear. The times I have immersed myself into looking at photos, rating and commenting have been very inspiring and eventually made me want to get my camera back out, so you might just be in a non-photographing part of your creative cycle that will come full circle in time. I think your shots demonstrate a good sense for rhythm and texture. Also, your "low scoring" shots are not bad at all (and you've never been below a 5), so I hope you'll keep going & building on what you already can do.

I still hope to get a 6 for this (even after the initial 10 gets scrubbed on rollover). |

I'll be lucky if mine climbs to a 5, but I didn't think it would be a big hit. It was doomed before upload, as my wife said she liked both of my potential entries. |
