Holy crap man, I was just looking at your portfolio and you have some of the best photographs of deer I've seen!

original new for 1x

I have to say I LOVE the Top 40 version (original). The lighting is just mesmerizing...blah, blah, blah, you don't need me to tell you how fabulous you are...;-)

Hmmmm...why you are changing an already stunning image for 1x? I would worry that such changes would diminish the original which is already perfect. The Peanut Gallery thinks you should submit something new instead.

::gosh...by the end of this thread I'll be completely out of peanuts and COVERED with tomatoes! YIKES!::

I think his fawns got rejected at 1x. Didn't they?

Well I'd be surprised if the re-edit is enough to turn that around but maybe I'm wrong. I think those links the violinist123 posted earlier sheds some light into what they expect. Btw, is it just me or did the violinist123 have a sex change? lol.

Haha, sorry, I haven't been here long enough to have looked at everyone's portfolio's, but Yanko's picture is quite spectacular as well.

Yeah that one got rejected. Although it probably wouldn't have if I wasn't so lazy. I just upsized the DPC version and submitted it rather than work with the original and clean it up a little. It was rejected due to editing with a 50% popularity rating.

Btw, I see Alex's Realm of the Deer is on 1x and racking up the favorites too.

Wow. I read stuff like this and it just makes me want to....hurl.

I can pretty well imagine the patched elbow tweed jacket, unlit pipe, and bifocals to go with it. So there IS a formula for fine art! It's just that he is the keeper of it and the other formulas are all pretenders.

I'm thinking of the Seinfeld where Elaine takes the cartoon from The New Yorker to the editor and tries to force him to explain WHY it is funny. The guy basically can't and throws out lines like, "Humor is like gossamer and one does not dissect gossamer." Finally he admits, "I liked the kitty!"

I'm afraid there's a bit of truth to that. You get accepted at 1x because the screener likes the kitty... ;)

(this is all tongue in cheek people...)

Does go a long way towards sucking every last drop of spirit out of what is in essence a spiritual pursuit (the creation of art). At the same time, it's an interesting perspective to consider from a mechanics point of view (like composition rules, etc).

Whether or not the screeners actually subscribe to the concept, god knows. I'm fairly certain at this point that your odds of getting a given motif published are directly related to which screener happens to be active and that the (no longer provided) impact rejection really means 'the current screener doesn't dig it'.

I was entirely referring to this with my "I liked the kitty" comment... ;)

Hmmmm...I'm vaguely wondering if the acceptance process would be more direct by shooting specifically for the 1x site as opposed to redesigning a DPC shot?

What's the difference between being published and "added to the site"?

My shot Princess Sun is on the front page so, I assume...?

Added to the site, published, all the same. Means you've been accepted! You're one of the special people now! Or at least they like that picture. :-)

Ahhh. Very cool.

Good lord this guy's a monster. One image is better than the one before. I'm amazed.

Log in, go to the Account tab, go to Submitted Photos, click on that one, and you should see below it the screening info - the "acceptance bar" and any comments received during screening, as well as the "reasons" some may have voted not to publish. I'll check it out when I get home - 'tis blocked at work.

Latest reject:

They may be the "opera" of the photo world but I got some really dumb comments on this photo during screening.

I signed up at midnight last night but was too tired to figure the place out. The work I've seen so far is superb

897 views. That's purdy cool.

I'm 2 for 2. Looks like I found an audience.

1/1 I thought they might toss it for editing. The sky looks all blotchy at 850 pix.

Figured i'd give it a shot, especially after skimming the "impact" links above. It's all down hill from here... ;)

pawdrix-- I love that 9th ave. shot. Don't you have another one similar but at street level? Something similar is sticking in my mind.
