Believe me - the criteria IMHO has gotten stricter and I know some of my previous shots would not have passed the screener now.

Ahem... 50% is GOOD. Some of us are on the 1 a week plan, you know. :-) (Actually, I think I'm up to two a week, but that won't last!)

Yes, it would be good if they all hadn't happened ages ago before they became even stricter - I thought they were hard before now I KNOW almost all of mine that squeaked through before would not now so it is misleading to say the least that I am at 50% for the moment. I'll keep submitting and it'll keep dropping, that I feel really confident about.

I'll say I've found the critique section to be somewhat more helpful. I think I'll hang out there for a while. I'm pretty sure I'm headed for the 1 submission a week bin though if I'm not there already.

...ETA...I just posted this for screening. We'll see.

Unfortunately the following picture(s) were not published:

* #104632 (Portal to the Heavens)

The above photos will not be published. This does not mean they are not good
photos, just that they are not what we are looking for. Uploaded photos are
evaluated in terms of affect, originality, aesthetics and technical quality.
Carefully look through our collection to see what kind of photography
onexposure is intended for. Then select your absolutely best work and upload
again. The reject reasons are suggestions about what to look for to improve
the photo. If you want more feedback, paste the photo in the photo critique
forum.

Looks like it just failed in screening. No critical comments.

This is, by the way, a second place BetterPhoto winner. :)

Both rejected. the geese one said :

* Color
* Motif
* Impact
* Light

Personally I love them both. the deer one is a finalist in dcmag photo of the year and scored high here.

mine was rejected also!

I am wondering what is the point of this website. I mean its not a competition site, u dont learn anything, and you cant post exactly what you like without the chance of rejection.

I enjoy looking at some of the photos there, but submitting to it is annoying. I dont feel they are correct with alot of the rejections I have seen and the reasons sometimes are so pathetic.

I actually feel quite liberated by what is on offer at 1x; the lack of weekly briefs and the way the peer review process seems to demand something that continually brings something new keeps me on my toes. I love looking at the images there and I can honestly say that interaction with 1x is getting me to rethink the sort of images I want to take.

That's why I go to 1x - does that make sense?

no not really. why should their idea of what looks good affect your idea?

Because each interaction, whether acceptance, rejection or just viewing stimulates me to have new ideas of my own. I suppose the free studies here at DPC do a similar thing, though the greater tolerance to unconventional images is an important factor.

the trouble is that there are different judges for each picture you submit.

the 2nd stage is judged by who ever happens to be logged on that time (over a period of just a few hours).

at least with DPC you have the same judges through the week, every week.

Yes, the picture is judged by whoever happens to be logged on over a period of hours (sometimes a few and sometimes longer) - but it's always a member of the 1x crew who has the final saying.

Wow. I'm just tuning into 1x, now and I'm really digging the images.

How long does it take for them to accept of reject images?

It's very difficult to say but based on some of the photo's posted that were rejected I think...THINK, I uderstand what they are looking for in terms of impact. Not sure but there's a little edge some of their images have that make them stand out.

I hope I have a few they might like...

Usually takes about 24 hours or so if you get past Round 1 - ie past the initial "does this go into member screening" decision. Then the masses ponder, vote go/no go, then the screeners make a final decision.

::nibbles daintily on peanuts...for that is what we do best here in The Peanut Gallery::

My impression of this site is that it's a virtual Art Association and the members of the "association" vote on what gets hung in the virtual gallery. Not all galleries are created equal, of course, but all galleries do offer some type of exposure to the world and attract different viewers, and everyone has to decide for themselves the virtual galleries that most fit an individual style.

1x attracts the opera crowd and DPC is more like Top 40, but that is just my two cents...;-)

Edited: because I never learned to type.

Personally, I enjoy going to the opera and enjoy many of the photos at 1x.

Eagerly, I am looking forward to DrAchoo's next self-portrait...in the infamous Achoo emerald green of course...;-)

What was the popularity for the original you submitted? Was it around 50% or much lower?
