I have a Sigma 1.4x which I used to use with my Sigma 100-300 f/4 for quite awhile with no problems. Then I started getting intermittent "no lens attached" errors, then finally the teleconverter and camera stopped speaking to each other altogether. Is this a common problem with a TC and a heavy lens? I do tend to walk around with the camera around my neck so the lens is pulling on the TC some. The lens works splendidly directly on the camera so it's definitely the TC that is the problem. Long since out of warranty, of course.

I'm considering replacing it but not if the new one is likely to have the same problem.

Advice welcome :-)

My guess is it is just what you think. I have had the same problem with a Tamron in the past when carrying it around with heavy lens attached. If you wiggle it when it does this can you get the error to go away? It is likley that the contact surface have become loose more than it has gone bad.

Forgot to mention. One way to try and avoid this is to carry it on a monopod with the lens attached, not the camera. Takes the stress off the connection. A habit I have gotten into.

Wiggling used to work, but no more. I've been thinking the same thing about the contact surface, but also that I should treat it better ;-) I do have a monopod I like but I didn't get it till after the teleconverter stopped speaking to me.
