I've always been very happy with my purchases with Amazon. For once, after many transactions, I got a crappy one.
Here's the rundown:
I've gone back to school as of late, and because I know how exorbitant the textbook prices were at the college, decided to peruse my online options. So I ended up finding the right one, sold direct from Amazon, for WAY cheaper.
So here's the problem: I received the textbook, was perfectly happy.... until I realized that it didn't include an access code for online material. So now I need to return the textbook, and I don't really think I should have to pay for return shipping because Amazon failed to include that there was no access code included in the product description. The return policy states that they will pay for it if the reason you are returning is their fault, but I was curious if anybody else had done something similar.
Any returns feedback would be much appreciated-
Thanks!

I returned a faulty memory card, I think I went to my account and there was a return item link or something like that and then I *think* eventually I had a pre paid return address label to print out .... it may have been sent to me after Amazon had dealt with the returns request.
You could try emailing the publishers telling them your issue and they may give you the code if it should have come with the book.

Yeah I know about the return tab and all that jazz... I was just hoping for some feedback before I enter the cycle of e-mails and what not.
In regards to the publisher... yeah that's the problem: I can purchase the access code for a separate fee ($40), but that makes it more expensive than returning the text and even paying for shipping too, when compared to buying it locally. My problem is that nowhere does Amazon state that the code is NOT included, so I had no way to know this. All the texts around here come with the code unless they are used, and this text was bought brand new. I'm pretty confident that Amazon will be pretty good, but was wondering about the whole paying for shipping thing.

A long time ago I bought a video camera from Amazon which did not work when I received it, I had quite a hassle with Amazon and eventually ended up sending it directly back to the factory for a replacement. I avoid Amazon as much as posible now.

Like Bugzeye, I try to avoid Amazon. They'll stand by their return policy, but it's still a hassle. At one point I had to return a "refurbished" KitchenAid professional mixer that arrived with cookie dough still on it. :-/

They must have tested it at the factory after they refurbished it, Would have been nice if they had sent you a box of fresh baked cookies with the mixer.

I try to avoid refurbished cookies, too.

So, figured I would update.
Return went smoothly, although I almost forgot to send it back within the window allowed. Sent it on the last possible day I think. Couple weeks later, got an e-mail saying they had processed my return, and I could expect my refund as soon as my bank processed it. I didn't even have to argue about them paying shipping (which was overnight).
In short, the return was insanely easy and painless.

I have had two return experiences with Amazon, both times it went smooth. No problems. In fact the fastest and best returns ever. I rank them first in customer returns. Adorama second (and Helen Oster deserves most of that credit). And B&H third. Thats just my ranking tho.

I have just returned a graphics tablet to amazon.co.uk and I had the replacement before I returned the faulty item, they sent me a link to book in the return at their expense and everything was the simplest I have ever known, I would not hesitate to buy anything from them due to this experience.
