I need to get V2 of lightroom, I have the beta/trial, and it finally timed out.

My question: which is more convenient for installs, the LR upgrade download from Adobe, or the physical product CD? I can get the CD a little cheaper, but I don't want to have to find my original LR discs every time I reinstall to prove I had version 1. (Actually, I don't have discs now that I think about it, since I was a Rawshooter Pro user who got LR 1.0 free.)

Has anyone upgraded via the CD? How does it verify you had LR 1? What happens on a new machine?

I assume the Adobe downloaded version doesn't have an installation proof requirement, since they can control the download and offer it only to upgraders. But you can correct me if I'm wrong there!

Thanks in advance!

It verifies by asking for the LR1 serial number when you try to install it.

I did it via download. I then burned a CD with all the LR stuff on it.

When you open LR 1 you can find your serial number under help (I think).

I realize this thread is old as far as threads are concerned - but ...

I'm upgrading from a student version of Lightroom 1 to lightroom 2 ...
The retail version upgrade is the cheapest I found (Amazon).

Anyone know if I can upgrade the educational version to the retail version?

Further - should I since I will probably want to get the educational version of 3 when it comes out?

I'm out of breath now.

As far as a I know the only difference between the educational version and the retail version is the price.........so it shouldnt matter.

I was NOT able to upgrade the Educational CS2 to the Retail CS4, even though CS2 to CS4 is okay. I had to buy the retail CS4.

I couldn't upgrade LR 1, educational version. I had to by LR 2 but I got it as educational so the price was still good.

that is too weird.
I bought the upgrade. installed. Upon opening it asked for the SN ... then it asked for the previous number and it filled itself in automatically since it was already installed.

That's all great - except for the fact that the drive that holds my Lightroom catalog is fried. Which is sorta unrelated but I thought I'd mention it.
