I have a feeling some voters don't realize this is basic editing. I'm disappointed in my score, but I really like my shot. Hopefully this will creep up above my average.

Pass a slice of pizza please.

A click of the update button is slightly better. Oh well, at least my tree entry is doing nicely. I'm gonna go sit under my high scoring tree to eat my pizza.

Much better then what I saw when I went to bed after rollover last night; It was 2 votes and 3.0, at like 12:11 at night... That there reeks of troll.

I'm excited; This is only my third challenge entry here, but this is the first one that I really like. And considering that I'm using a little Canon Powershot A70 and a very pitiful lighting setup, I think it came out rather well. :P I'm not expecting much out of it from the voters since its got obvious flaws but as I said, given my current conditions, I am damn proud of it. :)

ETA: That update button is maddening.

I just went through the challenge, is it my eyes, or is it my computer screen (just calibrated) or are there really dark ones in there?

I dropped an entire point over-night without 1 additional comment. Last night, I was sitting at a 6.9 with 2 comments. These conceptual challenges can be open to so much interpation. I think I am suffering from the "I don't get it" vote. Oh well.....they are my favorite types of photographs to shoot, but you always run the risk of being misunderstood.

Hang in there Jenn. I think there was some heavy, early low voting. Look at the scores posted. Barely a 6+ among them. You'll bounce back.

My glasses entry was at 5.6 is at 39 votes and ended up 6.2. My sound entry is now at 5.56, so I'm hoping the later voters will follow the same. So he's right, hang in there. Scores do rise!

From what I see there are more people out there who are happy to hand out 3s if they are simply not too keen on your image, whereas to get a 7 or above I think that most voters would have to consider that your entry is somewhat better than average.

The net result is from my experience that recovering from a handful of 3s is a struggle.

For example based on 100 votes the following holds true

If you have an average score of 5 after 40 votes and then get a 3, you will need a 7 followed by all 5s to recover to an average of 5 again after 100 votes.

If you are averaging 7 after 40 votes when you get a 3 then even a 10 followed by all 7s will not fully recover your position after 100 votes.

Now you can argue that the same applies to everyone, but does it?

Personally I'm generally not in the habit of handing out 3s and therefore the people who do vote 3 have a distinct advantage over me as a result as they can damage my score in a way that I would not do to them.

I'm not complaining by the way, I'm just making an observation.

Based on what I was going on about below it could be that what we need is for voters to be disinterested as it were, so one option for the open challenges could be that you may only vote in the challenge that you did not enter.

Thoughts?

this is where my glasses entry started too and it made it to 4th place in the end. I actually like this shot much better too!

I think top 10 images will always survive as they are more likely to pick up the high scores to counter the low votes.
In your case Patrick your 3 3s were easily countered by 7 10s and 8 9s and very well deserved your high scores were by the way.

It has been suggested many times by myself and many others. Not that the voters need to be disinterested, but that it would discourage troll voting. Not to mention the fact that IMHO for something to be done fairly it not only needs to actually be fair, but to have the appearance of being fair to casual observers. Allowing people to vote on a challenge they are entered in leaves to much room for it to look bad. (although I am sure the actual number of folks that vote down their competition is very small)

I really thought I'd do better this time. But maybe people don't SEE sound. I like my picture though and that's what really counts. I'd give me..... I don't know... at least a 6.
What bothers me is the no comments. Again.
