I'm curious why this last entry of mine scored so many 1-3's(nine ones is high to me).
Not the best pic, but it met the challenge, and was in focus...and all that.
Did voters not read the title, and therefore think i forgot to rotate?

I didn't vote in this challenge, but I certainly wouldn't vote this a 1. It's a fun image, but not in the same boat as the top 10, so in my opinion, it's a 4 or a 5. I saw some posts in the forums that seemed to slam any toy cars used, so maybe that's what happened. Of course, the persons scoring it 1s again have hidden behind their click, so to speak. It would have been nice for some of them to tell you why they saw it as a 1...

Not a bad shot. The background is really distracting. Maybe to much dof. It just doesn't say wow to me. I would have given it a 4 if I voted. :-)

I remember this one, I gave you 8.
I am not keen on the use of toys but as you say it was in keeping with the theme and technically a good shot,
didn't warrant any 1s or 2s,
Paul. |

I liked the concept; there were a couple technical things that hurt it IMO. First, the red channel is saturated or nearly so over most of the car; it glares at you. That, combined with the hard light (undiffused flash) makes the image less attractive than it could be.
I agree about the background being a slight distraction. decreasing the exposure just a bit relative to the foreground would solve this.

I thought it was a pretty good shot. Of the toy shots it was one of my favorites. I gave it a 6.
I think some people just get in their mind what a picture for a challenge has to be and any thing other than their interpretation is automatically a low score. It ticks me off, but so goes life.

Personally I was surprised to see where it placed in the challenge. Dunno why. Who can tell why shots get voted down. Ask JJ for some tips, he seems to be really good at not scoring those votes! :)

With all respect for your work as per your portfolio and previous entries, this particular photo, although mildly humorous is also trivial to the extreme.
It conveys nothing new, nor does it tell me anything I don't know already in a new or different way. It is also bare of any feeling or emotional info via the subject it depicts and by manner and aesthetics.
If anything, its achieved focus (which appears neither spectacular nor so poor as to be faulted) does nothing to the image itself but highlight the lurid artifice of a toy that might trigger the temporary attention of an infant in a brightly unflattering way.

Wow, I guess it WAS that bad! I just didn't see it that way.
I see so many shots that are out of focus, pixelated snap shots every week, and I guess I don't vote down as much as some people.
I actually thought mine was fun, and different....I think I'll stick to nature from now on. It's safer for me.

Well, I was trying to explain the 1 - 3 votes, Terry. I know it's not much of a consolation, but I found the Vehicles challenge so dull and uninspiring, I stopped voting before reaching the 20% quota. You were spared my knife, at least. ;-)
Again, and despite my slam of 1 shot of yours, I want you to know that I value much of your work. And I, too, have been known to miss my own mark. ;-) |

I disagree. This is a challenge that others will vote on. You need to think about what the voters like. I think that is the biggest problem folks make here on this site. They like it so they submit it. I have shots that I like and even love but would never submit them to a challenge here. I know they would do very poorly. Most of the time the voters know what is best.
Something to think about, that's all. :-) |

I guess it depends on your purpose. If you want to win ribbons, then definitely what Sonifo says. However, I have had a couple of shots that I loved, that the voters (well, most of them) didn't. I still submitted and had fun. I guess to me, it is more about expressing myself, and seeing if I relate to anyone else through photography than about hitting an average score of 7.
That said, it is fun to have high scores, and I do try to take pictures that don't waste the voters' time.
That said, I thought this picture was cute. I like the color contrast between the sky and car, and the "twist" on the framing. I probably would have given it between a 5 and 7, if I had voted.
