From The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise website
ICE MAGIC
Enjoy Lake Louise during the 15th Ice Magic International Competition, January 23 -25, 2009. In the shadow of glacier clad Mt. Victoria witness teams of professional carvers as they compete in the prestigious International Ice Carving Competition held each year at The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Sanctioned by the National Ice Carving Association, twelve international teams of three carvers are given 15 blocks of ice, weighing 300lb each, which they must transform into seven-foot tall world class ice sculptures in three days. Teams will also compete in a speed event, One Carver One Hour One Block. Chainsaws will fly as carver̢۪s race against the clock to carve one block of ice in one hour.
I cant go this weekend but hopefully it will remain cold there next week so the sculptures dont melt as I hope to get out there on Sat Jan 31 in case anyone else wanted to go with. PM me if interested...

Yea it was cool seeing them creating the ice sculptures last year, most of them seemed to defy gravity, I got some not so good shots of a few of them last year but might post a couple anyway... :) |

You forgot to allow for the ferries, which don't run overnight. More like you'd arrive 9:30am Sat and get back to Louise sometime in the wee hours of Sunday. And then you have to drive me home again before work Monday ;) |
