Just wondering if anyone is using or have come across any GOOD sounding text to speech applications or websites?

My Co wants to put voice overs in a number of training videos but wants to go this route rather than using a professional voice...

If you're planning on using the canned speech that turns text to speech, I want to be at your first presentation. I'm sure there is some expensive software but the stuff I hear is not good enough for traning videos...

Lets say they are not concerned by price at the moment...

Then it would be cheaper to hire a voice-over artist -- and a public service (stimulate that economy!) as well.

Indeed... that seems pretty odd that they'd not be concerned about price, but wouldn't hire someone to do the voice-over work. There are undoubtedly plenty of us dried up radio people who would do it for a case of beer :)

It sounds to me like he means that software can be downloaded and used for free, if you know what I mean (nudge nudge, say no more, etc.). It's harder to download a person for free. :(

:) :-) ;--)

Well their main excuse is that they want the SAME voice for all the training material and this is going to be an ongoing project for at least 2 or 3 years... so if the person lets say for arguments sake gets hit by a buss then the training material will no longer be consistent...

nope, I meant that they are willing to pay for a quality product...

Lets put it in photographic terms, theres a lot of cheep sites that have kit lenses for next to nothing but these guys want L glass and are willing to pay for L quality... ;)

Deave, look up a guy in Calgary called Lee Gaudry. We used him for many voice over projects and he is extraordinary and very reasonable. Say hi to him from me if you chat. You will not be disapponted.

I think having the training videos sound like they are narrated by Stephen Hawking would add much credibility to your company.

Careful when choosing software though, one product I tried had a really bad Tourettes bug in it.

Good luck. :)
