Same problem. As said many times make sure that you've set up Monitor RGB when starting the process. If that is done, I will complete my edit as best as possible, save for web, export to workshop and readjust my original several times to compensate for the quality lost between saving for web and further viewing on DPC. This will mean you may need to have 4 or 5 tweaked attempts before you get the output you want. There may be a simpler way but I haven't fount it.

Is your colour profile set to sRGB?
01/21/2009 10:22:32 PM · #6
The simpler way is make sure the colour space is sRGB before using save for web.

I see absolutely no difference between them. I switch between them on tabs and nothing seems to change.

Are you by chance using a colour managed browser?

They look the same in Firefox and only slightly different in IE (deeper blue for non sfw version).

Ivo put it well. Looks like from the exit on the full quality one its profile was adobe not srgb.

i can see the difference in the thumb versions.

first one being more violet toned.

color is one of those things. tough to pinpoint a specific thing you need to do.

there are a ton of threads discussing how to minimize color shifts and/or properly manage color.

at the very least you need to 'convert to profile' ( sRGB ) BEFORE using the save as for web and devices dialog.

ok... lets start back at the root of the problem... my pics look AMAZING on my D90 3" LCD... BUT no matter how hard I try, I can NEVER get them to look close to as good on my computer in camera raw

your LCD is a preview window. please don't base your final image quality expectations on a 3" LCD screen.

try this. go into the d90's menu and change the brightness setting for the LCD super screen, and then rethink what you just posted.

or look at the same image on the 3" LCD super screen inside in a dark room, and then again outside in bright daylight....

Probably you're shooting in adobe RGB and it's enforcing an sRGB color space. Before clicking Save for Web, go to Edit->convert to profile (NOT assign profile), and convert it to sRGB. Then try again.

Just a suggestion, is the original in 16bit such that when you save for web, it's downsampling to 8bit and perhaps using a different algorithm?

How in the world is anyone supposed to figure out that this is your problem when all you provide is a thread title that apparently has nothing to do with what you are asking.

Oh! Maybe you're having the same problem I had like 20 minutes ago! Check to see what color profile your monitor is using. I went to windows display options, advanced, then went to color management. Then I set the default monitor color profile to sRGB, restarted photoshop and suddenly RAWs looked exactly as they did on my D300's screen (which I believe is also sRGB color managed).

i think that's impossible.

like comparing apples to oranges.

how could a 3" LCD screen possibly look exactly like - say - a 17" LCD ? even using the same color profiles.

ok... i think part of this problem has to do with my Crappy 19" old School Dell LCD....

I just ordered a new 24" HD widescreen monitor from dell... It will arrive later this week...

I'm going to try that out, try the sRGB business, then start a new thread with some more structured questions...
01/21/2009 11:15:25 PM · #22
1- are you crazy ?

2- why did you order another dell monitor ?

3- why did you order a new dell monitor if you don't know the one have has issues ?

01/21/2009 11:18:42 PM · #23
hahaha... to further explain.... i want a larger screen anyways for editing purposes... it is 1/2" taller and like 6" wider, so editing pics will be much easier... That's why I ordered a new one... BUT the new one MIGHT work better for colour profile issues, so i will wait until it comes...

Hey, I'm using a dell 2405FPW, and it's freaking amazing. Dell makes really good monitors, soup.
