That's not what happened! What happened was that Obama was supposed to repeat what the Justice said, but the Justice got it wrong. It wasn't that Obama couldn't remember, it was that he knew the Justice was giving him the incorrect phrasing.

i watched it here at school and we all saw him mess up. some of us thought is was funny but others thought that he (obama) was just nervous and so he was off the hook for that. i get it now that i read more your guys' comments. still.

That's exactly what I thought, too. Obama had the thing memorized, and knew that Chief Justice messed it up, so paused when he realized what he was saying.
