Great article in Pop Photo this month about the 50mm, F/1.4 lens. I'm having trouble finding one for my camera though. Can anyone point me to one?

There is forum discussion on dpreview and steves digicams. Try searching on a camera sales site like B & H or Adorama to see if they carry it.

I looked there. Maybe I'm missing it...

The Sigma 50mm, 1.4 lens for four thirds?
Here in Japan that will be available from January 25. Probably you'll find it some time after that at your usual shops.

Bump? I see one listed here in our Equipment list. I'm still a fairly new lens shopper, and I feel like I'm missing something obivous...

Brian, the one you are seeing is for Canon. You cannot use it on your Oly. Probably it is on the market longer than the "four thirds" mount lens.
That happens often with Sigma lenses. First they make them for Canon and Nikon etc., then for Four Thirds (Oly, Panasonic, Leica).

There is also a Zuiko lens out there, 50mm f/2 which is getting excellent reviews. I don't have it and the only flaw seems to be the slowish auto focus motor. That lens is on the market and should be available.

Happy shopping!

Thanks, Susanne for the response. Seems like Oly users really have to stick together! Here's what I'm looking at:

I PMed one of the alleged owners (the only one who appears to be even semi-active) to see what he has exactly and where he got it.

I got your message Brian.

Yes I do own the Olympus Zuiko OM 50mm f/1.4 and use it on my Olympus E-1 with an adapter. I have to say that it is a lovely lens and really enjoy working with it. Below are some of the images I took with it.

Where did I get the lens? There is a local store here called Overland Photo Supply (www.overlandphoto.com) which sells previously owned as well as new photography equipment. While they do not carry any current Olympus digital equipment, the do have legacy Olympus glass there. I picked up the 50mm f/1.4 back when I had read an online review about how great the lens was and that you can use it very easily with an adapter on a 4/3 mount. Although you have to manually focus and use the aperture ring to control the aperture for your shots, it is still quite usable. I say pick one up and test it out using live-view on your E-520.

Two alternatives to this lens would be to get the PL 25mm f/1.4 or he 50mm f/2.0. Both are great quality lenses and I am sure you'll enjoy the results you get. There are reviews of the 50mm f/2.0 on slrgear.com and dpreview.com.

As far as adapters go... check out Fotodiox.com for some adapters for Olympus or 4/3 mount adapters which could greatly increase your lens options.

Thanks for stopping by, Tank. That explains a lot! You get some beautiful results with that lens also. I'm going to look more closely at this.

I don't have the issue in front of me, bvy, but I believe at the end of the article, they mentioned what you may use for 4/3rds, and they were a panasonic/Leica offering and the Sigma 30mm/1.4. There may have been a third lense, as well.

I've left my OM lens in a case and haven't really dragged them out for the E-3. I'll have to do some testing this weekend. I do have an adapter. Thanks for stimulating me.

Added: Took a look at my profile and it looks like I need to update it with some new lenses I recently purchased and my OM lenses.

I did go back and look, and sure enough they mention a Sigma lens for $433 street. Thanks for pointing it out.

Hi Brian - I don't have the f 1.4 but I have this...
//www.dpchallenge.com/lens.php?LENS_ID=325

I used it for this photo and was very happy with the results:

I got it for $20 shipped. So this is another alternative for you.
