Place your predictions for the macro III challenge here.

I predict I will finish at or about 100th place!
I predict many coin pictures.
I also predict someone with an expensive camera will win!

Why an expensive camera? I think a bug shot will win. Of course, we can't see any of them just yet but looking forward to checking it out in about 13 mintues.

I'm taking a flyer this week, I really don't know how my image will be received. I'll have to take a S.W.A.G., say 5.95, 12 comments, place 40/168

Edited to finalize # of entries to 168

My entry is one of the best photos I've ever taken, I think. I also had a choice of 3 that was hard, though they were all very similar.

However, I am not expecting it to be my highest place, or even score, simply because looking back historically, the marco challenges seem to usually be an amazingly high standard. That's a great thing .... even if I'd prefer others entered rubbish so I had a chance ;)

I predict a low score on this one... very low... maybe even below 5.

WONDERFUL!!!!!!

Looking forward to many good ones here. I too had a hard time making a decision. Maybe I will post the outtakes after the challenge is over

Have no fear, apparently rubbish is what I entered because I've been getting lower and lower votes from these first people voting. Dropped .7 from its high (6 votes at the time) and keeps getting lower still. Not quite sure what about it deserves the one and twos its clearly been getting. Oh well, I'll never understand the voting here.

I do realize its early yet but my scores generally don't seem to fluctuate much after the first 20 or so votes..

exactly 6.5000 with 25 votes - oh how we all know the soon slip though ;)

Although I thought it was the best photo I have ever taken (I think it's better than Queen of Hearts), my score is 5.0000 at the moment, 25 voters and one comment. I want to stay above 5, sooo come ooon, vote at least 5 for me. :-))))))))))

Well.... I took a big chance with mine and.... bomb! :-) I'm in the 4.5 range... boohoohoo :-)I still love my shot. :-)

With all the awesome macros, my prediction is now that I will be in last place! Mine did not turn out as well as I thought. The post processing looks different on my work computer than on my home computer.

Oh well, I had fun and I would do it again!

Some great shots in the Macro challenge, but unfortunately I'm also seeing quite a few not-so macro, or even close up shots.
12/22/2003 10:17:57 AM · #17
I wasn't even going to enter because I just don't think I've got the macro even close to being down... and then I second guessed myself and went with the photo my husband liked better and it's getting panned (at least he liked it) :) Wish I had gone with my original gut feeling and posted my choice ... oh well, wasn't expecting to do good in this challenge either way.

Good luck to the rest of you!

I just took my first look-see. I wish the challenge statement hadn't muddled the assignment. To say that a close-up was acceptable opens the door WIDE - some of the shots aren't macro by any stretch, but I guess they're all close-ups. Maybe next time say the subject needs to be within 18 inches of the camera, or something like that.

BTW, my photo, taken inches away from the subject is getting the cr*p kicked out of it - around 3.8, strongly heading for the worst rating I've gotten. From the comments here, "holiday cheer" is not translating into the scoring (or the photography) - somehow scores (or quality) are low-low-low!

I'm really irritated with myself now - didn't get around to submitting 'til the 11th hour, and then submitted something that is just another mediocre. Looking back at my pix for last week, I've now found two that could have satisfied me much more! I think I tend to forget to look into what I've done on my own!

I am wishing I had chosen a title (naturally I thought of it too late) that gives more of an indication of what I was trying to do. It's getting slammed anyway so I suppose that doesn't matter.
edit for typo

Should have left this well alone - 54 votes 3.5370, 2 comments. Ah well live and learn....

Macro is usually deemed quarter life-size and smaller, but more like half life size on film is more like it.
12/22/2003 04:28:05 PM · #23
Ah well.. mine is indeed a macro, but unfortantely doesn't look like it. Used 10+ diopter to shoot it..
So it goes.

I think if we had a descriptive area for each entry it would help those folks that would like to give some information on their shots.

Other sites do it, I think it would be a good addition.

Anyone else getting rather rude comments from a newly registered person with no camera? Just curious - looks like they've made several comments in the last few minutes, the one to me could have been helpful if I felt like it was coming from someone with some photos under his belt - but frankly, as he doesn't, to take a page from his book "no interest here."

I'd just like to thank the 63 voters that currently have my score at 5.8413- so far, so much better than my Simplicity entry!! Yay!
