First it started with a Camera
Then a few halogen desk lamps and a home made light diffuser.

Then I found an Article on some Alien Bees in a Photo Mag. I was "Abducted" and have not looked back.

Just recieved a new light and now I am at peace with myself.
Well until I buy another strobe. :-)

So lets see. How many have gotten the bug as bad as I and decided to upgrade their equiptment over time?

By the way the Backdrop was found in Walmart it is bleached Muslin 120 inches wide and 12 feet long. I think I could have used 3 or 4 more feet.

That is just an afterthought.

Wow Turbotech, great studio! My studio still looks like this 1 year later (only more saw dust now :D):

I'm crazy jealous of both of you! I have nothing. Don;t know enough or have the cash money to get equipment. I would like to some day. My twin sister is an artist & I want to shoot her art work to make a portfoloi. I got some good tips on shooting 2D art but have to do a make shift light source thingy like I saw on the Olympus website. They are lights in a rectangle box that gives off even light on both side of the art piece. Hopefully I will be able to come up with soemthing creative to do as an alternate. Would love to hear ideas on the subject.

I am beginning to understand more the importance of light in a shot. I know it's crazy basic but I think I;ve been lucky so far using mostly natural light.

My first entries at DPChallenge were with a 2 megapixel Olympus point and shoot. Then I went to a Nikon CP 5700, then a Sony F717, then to a Canon 10D. Like Turbotech (John) I also have some Alien Bees strobes (John was the person who steered me in that direction). I've won a couple of ribbons here, and it has been a lot of fun. I have recently stopped shooting for challenges, and enter if I have a shot during the week if it fits the theme. I'll eventually go back to shooting for challenges, but I'm kind of taking a break right now. It has been a good year, and I look forward to lots more fun in the future!

One year ago I entered that shot. My first entry with my new G2. Now I have a 300D and a tripod, but nothing else extra :P

You've managed to collect a few ribbons along the way though :P

What you're looking for is something called a copy stand. It keeps the camera's sensor plane and the subject matter parallel, and lights from both sides at a fairly shallow angle to reduce/eliminate both shadows and glare.

Any tips on how I can create the effect without having to actually buy the copy stand?
