I'm just starting to put together my new computer. I'm installing Vista, but may leave a partition for a dual boot, to install Win7, Linux and other stuff I may want to play with. The new takskbar/dock looks really interesting. |

I tried it under virtualbox in OSX and it seems to be alright. I may try it under bootcamp with Vista drivers to get a better feel for it. My first impressions were that it seems to be more focused on the interface and small little visual changes. Other than that, it seems to be the same core as Vista. The other thing I noted was abysmal boot time. But, this could be due to virtual environment, though that argument doesn't always hold as the virtual environment I have used seems to boot quicker for XP. Mostly just small little cool interface changes that I think are nice.

I installed it on VMWare earlier and tinkered with it on and off throughout the day. I agree with goingskiing, in that it's pretty much Vista with some added extras. I'm completely happy with Vista, so I'll probably upgrade when it comes out for the extras. Some stuff I liked:
- Winkey+Up or Winkey+Down to maximize/minimize windows.
- You can dock any window you want to either edge of the screen.
- The backup feature is more useful than Vista's (you can backup any folder now instead of just types of files).
- The task bar knows how many tabs are open in IE, so you can jump to one immediately from the task bar (sadly it has no idea about FireFox).
I'm not entirely sure I like the new task bar approach... but the good news is you can alter it enough to where it behaves like the task bar in Vista.
I didn't mess with the device manager or HomeGroup, but they seem like two very promising features. |

I only with they had gotten the memo and thinned it down. Too bad. |
